Job description

Robert Half is actively partnering with an Austin-based client to identify a Application Security Engineer (contract). In this role, you will will partner with software development, IT, and security teams to identify and mitigate application risks, implement secure development practices, and ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards and best practices. This role is hybrid in Austin, Tx., * Collaborate with development teams to establish and enforce secure coding standards, code review practices, and security-focused testing methodologies.

  • Conduct application security assessments, including code reviews, threat modeling, architecture reviews, and vulnerability analysis.
  • Develop and maintain application security policies, standards, procedures, and developer guidance materials.
  • Identify, prioritize, and coordinate remediation efforts for application vulnerabilities and security risks.
  • Monitor compliance with application security requirements, policies, and security tooling across the software development lifecycle.
  • Design and implement security controls including authentication, authorization, encryption, data protection, and network security measures.
  • Provide security training, awareness, and consultation to software engineering and technology teams.
  • Partner with stakeholders to evaluate security risks and integrate security best practices into development and operational processes.
  • Prepare security assessment findings, risk reports, and recommendations for leadership and technical teams.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 4+ years of experience in cybersecurity, application security, information security, systems analysis, software development, or related technical disciplines.
  • Experience conducting application security reviews, vulnerability assessments, threat modeling, and secure code analysis.
  • Knowledge of secure software development practices, common application vulnerabilities, and remediation strategies.
  • Experience developing security policies, standards, procedures, and technical documentation.
  • Experience delivering security training and guidance to technical teams.
  • Familiarity with security frameworks, risk management methodologies, and security compliance requirements.
  • Understanding of modern application architectures, CI/CD pipelines, source code repositories, and Agile software development practices.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Professional security certification such as CISSP, GIAC, OSCP, or equivalent preferred., * Experience reviewing and identifying security vulnerabilities within application source code.
  • Knowledge of OWASP Top 10, secure application design principles, and software assurance practices.
  • Experience with security monitoring, vulnerability management, penetration testing, or application security tooling.
  • Basic development or scripting experience in languages such as Python, Java, C#, .NET, or similar technologies.
  • Experience working within regulated, compliance-driven, or highly secure enterprise environments.
  • Familiarity with cloud security, DevSecOps practices, and automation technologies.
