AI Engineer

As an AI Modernization Engineer, you spearhead the transformation of legacy software systems at Philips into agile, cloud-ready architectures using advanced AI coding tools. You deliver immediate impact by combining technical expertise with cutting-edge AI assistants.

In this role, you work alongside engineering teams and architects in Eindhoven (or hybrid) to modernize business-critical systems without disturbing ongoing production.

Key responsibilities:

• Analyze legacy codebases in Java, .NET, C++, or ANSI-C to map logic, dependencies, and modernization opportunities.
• Apply the Strangler Fig pattern to extract microservices and build robust integration wrappers incrementally.
• Deploy AI tools like Copilot, Windsurf, and Claude to rewrite code, translate patterns, and generate unit tests for legacy code.
• Secure continuous integration and delivery by managing CI/CD pipelines, version control, security reviews, and performance checks.
• Coach team members on effective prompt engineering strategies and best practices to maximize overall development velocity.

• You have demonstrable hands-on experience in software development with at least two modern languages such as Java, Python, C#, C++, Rust, or Go, combined with proven skill in reading legacy code.
• You hold a track record of executing monolith-to-microservices migrations using incremental patterns like Strangler Fig.
• You actively use generative AI coding assistants daily for refactoring, test generation, and code translation.
• You have working experience with AWS or Azure cloud platforms, containerization, and CI/CD workflows.
