Senior Data Engineer - Microsoft Fabric

If your Microsoft Fabric experience goes beyond building the initial solution and you’ve actually had to support, improve and live with what you’ve put into production, this role should be relevant.

A UK Wealth Management business is modernising its enterprise data platform and moving from Azure Synapse to Microsoft Fabric.

They’re looking for a Senior Data Engineer who can take real ownership of production data solutions while remaining firmly hands-on.

You’ll design, build and deploy solutions yourself. You’ll also have the experience to make good technical decisions, solve difficult engineering problems and provide guidance to other engineers when needed. What you’ll be working on

Microsoft Fabric is becoming central to the data environment, supporting operational, reporting and analytics requirements across the business.

You’ll work across:

• Microsoft Fabric, including Lakehouse, Warehouse and OneLake
• Data pipelines and ETL/ELT
• Power BI
• SQL and data modelling
• Azure Data Lake
• Internal and third-party API integrations
• Azure DevOps, Git and CI/CD
• Production deployment and support
• Existing Azure Synapse solutions during the transition to Fabric

You’ll also help improve engineering quality and maintainability, troubleshoot production issues and share knowledge with other engineers.

You should have experience supporting your solutions in production, dealing with problems, improving them and seeing the longer-term consequences of the technical decisions you made.

Ideally, that experience will have been developed over a sustained period rather than through a short implementation project. The client is interested in genuine Fabric depth and production ownership, rather than using an arbitrary number of years as the measure.

You’ll also need strong Data Engineering experience across:

• SQL
• Data modelling
• ETL/ELT
• Azure data platforms
• API integrations
• Git/source control
• CI/CD
• Production deployment and support

Azure Synapse would be useful but isn’t essential.

You’ll need previous experience developing and deploying solutions within a highly regulated environment. Financial Services experience is strongly preferred, particularly Wealth Management, Banking or Insurance. Where AI fits

The business is increasing its investment in AI, including Azure AI Foundry and wider Microsoft AI technologies.

You don’t need to be an AI or ML Engineer. Some practical experience using Copilot or another LLM within development, debugging, code validation or documentation would be useful.

You’ll have scope to develop that experience alongside your core Data Engineering work. Package and working arrangement

The current working pattern is typically two days per month in either London or Birmingham.

You’ll need to live within approximately one hour’s commute of London, Birmingham, Leeds, Reading or Bristol and be prepared to work from an office up to three days per week if future business requirements change.

While current office attendance is low, this shouldn’t be considered a permanently remote position.
