Job description

As a Server Engineer, your responsibilities will include:

Server Infrastructure: Build, configure, deploy, maintain and retire Windows servers across physical and virtual environments, ensuring systems remain secure, resilient, highly available and performant.
Microsoft & Virtualisation: Administer enterprise Windows Server environments alongside core Microsoft technologies including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and Group Policy, as well as VMware vSphere infrastructure.
Automation & Infrastructure Improvement: Create and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate administration, improve operational efficiency and support ongoing infrastructure modernisation initiatives.
Troubleshooting & Security: Diagnose and resolve complex infrastructure issues, perform root cause analysis where appropriate, and deliver patching, OS upgrades, security hardening and vulnerability remediation.
Projects & Operational Support: Support server refreshes, migrations and platform upgrades, produce clear technical documentation, follow established ITIL processes and participate in an on-call rota and planned out-of-hours maintenance when required.

Requirements

Windows Server: Strong enterprise-level administration and support experience, including building, deploying, maintaining and decommissioning servers.
PowerShell: Strong scripting and automation skills, with experience developing scripts to streamline administration and operational tasks.
VMware vSphere: Hands-on experience administering virtual server environments. Hyper-V experience would be advantageous.
Microsoft Infrastructure: Strong practical knowledge of Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and Group Policy.
Server Security & Lifecycle: Experience with Windows patch management, operating system upgrades, security hardening and vulnerability remediation.
Infrastructure Support: Proven experience troubleshooting and supporting business-critical infrastructure within an enterprise environment.

Desirable technology experience: Microsoft Azure, MECM/SCCM, Microsoft Intune, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and Linux.
