Coating Technology Specialist

We are looking for a Coating Technology Specialist. This position will be based in Wendell, NC. Relocation assistance is available.

We are looking for a Coating Technology Specialist to serve as Siemens’ technical owner and subject matter expert for powder coating, pretreatment technologies, corrosion protection systems, and related surface-finishing processes across our supplier network.

In this role, you will help ensure the quality, durability, and long-term performance of products by driving coating standards, supplier excellence, and continuous improvement initiatives throughout the supply chain.

You’ll make an impact by:

• Owning the qualification, approval, and ongoing development of coating suppliers, materials, pretreatment systems, and approved coating processes.
• Establishing and maintaining coating specifications, technical standards, inspection criteria, and qualification requirements that support product performance and regulatory compliance.
• Leading validation activities for new suppliers, coating systems, manufacturing locations, and significant process changes to ensure robust implementation and risk mitigation.
• Monitoring coating performance through testing, supplier audits, quality metrics, and field data while driving corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Investigating coating defects, corrosion concerns, supplier quality issues, and field failures through structured root cause analysis and corrective action programs.
• Partnering with Engineering, Supplier Quality, Procurement, manufacturers, and material suppliers to improve corrosion protection strategies, coating performance, and supplier capabilities.

• Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Corrosion Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Surface Finishing Technology, or a related technical field.
• 5+ years of experience in powder coating, surface finishing, corrosion protection, pretreatment systems, or special-process management within an industrial manufacturing environment.
• Experience qualifying, auditing, and developing coating suppliers, contract manufacturers, or external special-process providers.
• Experience with coating specifications, inspection methods, and process validation activities.
• Strong understanding of corrosion protection principles for fabricated metal products.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States on a continual and permanent basis without company sponsorship., * Experience leading coating-system qualifications, material approvals, supplier process validations, and coating-related change management activities.
• Knowledge of powder coating technologies, pretreatment chemistries, and corrosion-resistant coating systems.
• Familiarity with coating inspection and testing methods, including film thickness, adhesion, cure verification, appearance, and corrosion testing.
• Experience with structured problem-solving tools such as FMEA, APQP, PPAP, SPC, and process capability analysis.
• Working knowledge of industry standards including ASTM D7091, ASTM D3359, ASTM B117, ISO 12944, and supplier audit methodologies such as VDA 6.3.
• Experience supporting electrical equipment, fabricated metal products, enclosures, switchgear, energy, or other industrial manufacturing applications.
