Americas - VMware Cloud Engineer (Staff Virtualization Engineer)

This remote opportunity is ideal for a VMware Cloud Engineer who enjoys solving complex infrastructure challenges, improving virtualization performance, and collaborating across teams to deliver reliable, scalable solutions. Responsibilities

• Design, implement, test, troubleshoot, and support virtualization infrastructure for an on-premises platform environment.
• Work closely with engineering and DevOps teams to improve test strategies, build automation, and strengthen deployment processes.
• Perform end-to-end validation to ensure platform functionality, stability, and integration across systems.
• Evaluate and improve information security across virtualized infrastructure.
• Apply virtualization best practices within enterprise environments.
• Optimize network hardware and software to support virtualization integration and performance.
• Investigate early indicators of platform risk and help address potential feature or application issues.
• Conduct root cause analysis for customer-reported issues and contribute to long-term solutions.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to support new platform capabilities and customer needs.
• Create and maintain technical documentation and product materials as needed.

• Strong expertise in virtualization technologies, including hypervisors and network virtualization.
• Hands-on experience with KVM and Harvester.
• Deep knowledge of VMware technologies such as vSphere, vSAN, vMotion, vCenter, and/or vRA.
• Proven experience with enterprise VMware deployment best practices.
• Ability to automate VMware environments using tools such as PowerCLI, Python, or Go.
• Experience using infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform for VMware deployments.
• Ability to troubleshoot issues within vSphere clusters using tools such as pktcap-uw, esxtop, and esxcli.
• Working knowledge of L2 and L3 networking protocols.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, and GCP.
• Programming or scripting experience in Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, or similar languages.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex technical problems.
• Clear communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical partners.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with VMware alternatives such as KVM/Nutanix or RedHat/OpenShift.
• VMware Certified Advanced Professional certification.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field with 7+ years of experience.
• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field with 5+ years of experience.
• PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field with 2+ years of experience.
• Experience working in collaborative, fast-moving engineering environments.
• Ability to document solutions clearly and communicate findings to a variety of audiences.
