Frontend Engineer (AI)

We’re looking for a Frontend Engineer with strong AI experience to join an exciting new AI experimentation team within a major UK organisation.

This is a rare opportunity for someone who sits comfortably between UX design and Front End engineering someone who can take an AI concept from idea, through interaction design, into working coded prototypes.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be helping shape a new AI Community of Practice, working alongside designers, engineers, architects and data scientists.

Your work will include:

? Designing experiences for AI-powered products - chat, generative tools, recommendations and agentic workflows ? Building high-fidelity prototypes in React and testing concepts with real users ? Using modern AI tooling such as Claude Code, Cursor, Figma and other AI-assisted development tools ? Creating reusable AI interaction patterns - prompt inputs, chat interfaces, data visualisation and agent workflows ? Exploring how AI can improve the way design teams work and prototype ? Working closely with technical teams to understand and communicate technical trade-offs ? Helping establish practical patterns and approaches for designing AI experiences at scale

This isn’t a traditional UX role and it isn’t a traditional Front End role. We’re looking for someone who genuinely designs and codes.

You should have:

• A portfolio containing live or working coded prototypes - not just static Figma work
• Strong JavaScript, HTML, modern CSS and React skills
• Advanced Figma experience, including variables, auto-layout, prototyping, design systems and tokens
• Practical experience building AI-powered experiences, agents or AI workflows
• Experience with MCP, tool calling, RAG or agent orchestration - MCP experience is particularly interesting
• An understanding of AI evaluation, including where AI outputs can fail and how those risks can be designed for
• The ability to collaborate confidently with engineers, architects and data scientists
• The ability to explain technical concepts and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders
