Sr DevOps Engineer (Compute Platforms)

Our client, a large professional services firm located in San Ramon, CA, is looking to hire a deeply technical Sr. DevOps Engineer (Compute Platforms) for a 3-month contract-to-hire role. The consultant will focus on the deployment, automation, support, and continuous improvement of large-scale compute environments spanning bare metal, virtualization, private cloud, and Kubernetes. This operational role requires expert-level knowledge of hardware management, OpenStack, hypervisors, and Linux using IaC and GitOps practices to support mission-critical applications., * Deploy, patch, and maintain bare metal infrastructure (Ubuntu), KVM, OpenStack, and Harvester HCI environments.

• Implement PXE-based provisioning leveraging Redfish APIs; develop IaC workflows using Ansible, Terraform, Helm, and Git.
• Build CI/CD pipelines for infrastructure patching, testing, and rollbacks; manage firmware updates and hardware health validation.
• Monitor performance, troubleshoot complex cross-stack issues (hardware to Kubernetes), and participate in on-call escalation rotations.
• Create and maintain technical runbooks, operational procedures, and community wikis.

• 6+ years as a DevOps, SRE, or Infrastructure Operations Engineer with a heavy focus on enterprise compute and production Kubernetes.
• Hands-on experience with bare metal at scale, PXE boot, server imaging, and BMaaS via Redfish APIs.
• Deep Linux admin skills (Ubuntu) and expertise with enterprise hardware (Cisco UCS, Dell PowerEdge, Supermicro, HPE).
• Operational experience with KVM on Ubuntu, OpenStack troubleshooting, and Harvester HCI.
• Proficiency with Terraform, Ansible, CI/CD pipelines, and Python/Bash scripting.

Desired Skills

• Advanced experience with Kubernetes on bare metal.
• Understanding of CIS/NIST security frameworks and ITIL methodology.
• Certifications: CKA, CKS, Ubuntu Certifications, or OpenStack/KVM credentials.
