IT Technician

The IT Technician supports technology in three areas at PRTC: internal end-user support for cooperative employees, residential PC repair through PRTC’s community PC repair service, and PC support for enterprise managed services customers as needed.

The role installs, diagnoses, repairs, maintains, and provisions computers, mobile devices, and peripherals; resolves issues accurately and promptly; and helps users of every skill level get the most from their technology. Most repair work is performed in-shop, with occasional on-site visits to member homes and customer businesses., This is an entry- to mid-level position. It suits early-career technicians with a solid foundation in PC and end-user support, as well as technicians with a few years of experience who are ready to take on broader responsibility. The technician works under the direction of the IT Manager, escalates complex or high-impact issues, and gains hands-on experience across enterprise, business, and residential environments. Responsibilities and independence grow as skills and experience develop.

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field preferred.
• CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+ or industry equivalent preferred.

Experience

• 0-3 years of hands-on experience in help desk, PC repair, or end-user support.
• Entry-level candidates with relevant coursework, certifications, internships, or demonstrated hands-on experience (such as building or repairing their own computers) are encouraged to apply.

Required Knowledge and Skills

• Working knowledge of Windows 10 and 11, with basic familiarity with iOS and Android devices.
• Understanding of PC hardware components and the ability to replace parts, reinstall operating systems, and back up and recover data.
• Basic understanding of networking concepts, including IP addressing, DNS, DHCP, and Wi-Fi.
• Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and common printers and peripherals.
• Ability to locate, read, and follow technical manuals, procedures, and OEM guides.
• Ability to safely use hand and power tools, components, and peripheral accessories.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting Microsoft 365 and performing user support in Active Directory.
• Experience with Microsoft Intune or another mobile device management platform.
• Experience with malware removal and endpoint security practices.
• Experience with a ticketing system and remote support tools.
• Deeper networking knowledge, including TCP/IP (IPv4 and IPv6) troubleshooting.
