Job description
This role sits at the intersection of engineering, open source community engagement, and developer experience strategy, focusing on improving how developers interact with modern cloud and infrastructure technologies. You will act as a technical voice and advocate for developer communities while also feeding real-world insights back into product and engineering teams. The position blends hands-on software work with communication, documentation, and public speaking across global audiences. You will engage directly with contributors, users, and ecosystem partners to improve tooling, workflows, and adoption of open source technologies such as Ubuntu. Working in a highly distributed, remote-first environment, you will collaborate across time zones with engineers, product managers, and community leaders. This is a highly visible role where technical credibility and communication skills are equally important. Accountabilities: Engage actively with developer communities across forums, events, social platforms, and open source channels to gather feedback and strengthen relationships. Collaborate with internal engineering, product, and marketing teams to align developer experience improvements and technical messaging. Produce high-quality technical content including documentation, blog posts, tutorials, reference architectures, and presentations. Deliver talks, workshops, and conference sessions to represent developer needs and promote best practices in open source software development. Identify gaps in developer tooling and workflows, proposing and validating improvements with engineering teams. Support cross-team initiatives to improve adoption and usability of Linux-based and cloud-native ecosystems. Act as a bridge between contributors and internal teams, ensuring feedback loops are structured, actionable, and continuous.
Requirements
Proven experience as a software engineer or developer with strong exposure to open source ecosystems and community contributions. Solid understanding of Linux systems, software packaging, and modern deployment models such as containers and cloud-native workflows. Familiarity with packaging and distribution formats such as snaps, debs, pip, or container-based tooling. Experience engaging with developer communities, whether through advocacy, documentation, or technical evangelism roles. Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical topics clearly to diverse audiences. Demonstrated ability to build trust and collaborate across distributed, multicultural teams. Hands-on programming experience and ability to contribute to technical discussions and problem-solving activities.
