Job description
The IT Systems Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day support, maintenance, security and performance of the organisation’s IT infrastructure. This role ensures the reliability and availability of servers, networks, cloud services, business applications, and end-user systems while providing technical support and contributing to IT projects and continuous improvement initiatives., * Manage Microsoft 365, Active Directory, Azure Active Directory (Entra ID), Exchange Online, and other cloud services.
- Maintain and monitor Windows server environments.
- Support endpoint management, including laptops, desktops, mobile devices and printers.
- Manage user accounts, permissions, group policies and security policies.
- Perform routine system updates, patch management and firmware upgrades.
- Assist in monitoring backup and disaster recovery solutions, ensuring regular testing and successful recovery procedures.
- Maintain network infrastructure including switches, wireless networks, VPNs and internet connectivity.
- Troubleshoot hardware, software, networking and infrastructure issues.
- Provide guidance and technical support to the 1st-line IT Technician.
- Act as the escalation point for more complex IT issues that cannot be resolved at first line.
- Monitor system performance, availability and capacity, taking proactive action where required.
- Implement and maintain cybersecurity controls including endpoint protection, multi-factor authentication, vulnerability management and security monitoring.
- Document systems, configurations, procedures and technical standards.
- Support IT projects including infrastructure upgrades, migrations, cloud adoption and new technology implementations.
- Liaise with third-party vendors, managed service providers and software suppliers.
- Ensure IT systems comply with company policies, security standards and relevant regulations.
- Work with the wider IT team to troubleshoot and maintain the ERP system.
- Provide out-of-hours support when required (for system and network upgrades or major system failures).
Requirements
Essential.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Experience supporting endpoint devices and Windows operating systems.
- Experience maintaining Windows Server environments.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft 365 administration.
- Experience with Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID.
- Understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, VPNs and firewalls.
- Knowledge of backup, disaster recovery and business continuity principles.
- Ability to prioritise workload and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Desirable.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Intune and endpoint management.
- Familiarity with PowerShell scripting and automation.
- Experience with cybersecurity tools and security best practices.
- Experience with ITSM solutions and helpdesk ticketing systems.
- Knowledge of ITIL principles or service management frameworks.
- Experience working with or maintaining ERP systems.

- Microsoft Certified (Azure Administrator, Modern Desktop Administrator or equivalent).
- CompTIA Network+
- CompTIA Security+
- VMware VCP
- ITIL Foundation
