Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Devonshire Group as our Senior Integration & Automation Engineer, taking a leading hands-on role in connecting and modernising the business systems that keep a complex, multi-site organisation running.

Working alongside the Solutions Delivery & Automation Lead, you will design and deliver the integrations, data flows and automated processes that join up our finance, retail, hospitality, property and operational systems. You will also take our Power Platform estate from ad-hoc solutions to a governed, documented and dependable environment that the whole Group can rely on.

This is a Microsoft-centred engineering role and the senior technical delivery capability in a small IT team. Where the Lead sets architecture and direction, you will own delivery - designing the solution, building it, integrating it, supporting it and reviewing the work of others. In time you will deputise for the Lead on technical matters, and there is real scope to shape how we work as the function grows.

This is a full-time role working five days a week from either the Chatsworth Estate Office, near Edensor, Derbyshire or from Bolton Abbey, near Skipton, Yorkshire (with at least one day a week working from the Derbyshire office), depending on your location. Hybrid working will be available with flexibility to meet business needs. There will be some travel to other Devonshire Group locations.

What you’ll be doing

  • Designing and delivering secure, reliable integrations between business systems, cloud services and third-party platforms using APIs, connectors, middleware and file transfer.
  • Building and supporting solutions across Microsoft 365 and the Power Platform, including Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse, Copilot Studio and SharePoint Online.
  • Establishing proper application lifecycle management - environments, managed solutions, Dataverse Git integration, pipelines, release and rollback - and the integration standards the rest of the team builds against.
  • Modelling, moving and validating data between systems, and building reporting on top of it using Power BI and Microsoft Fabric.
  • Supporting and improving what you and others have built, including through our busiest visitor periods.
  • Translating business needs into clear technical designs, and being straight with colleagues about cost, effort and trade-offs.
  • Producing high-quality solution designs, technical documentation and support materials that a colleague could pick up.
  • Reviewing and mentoring the work of colleagues in IT and citizen developers across the Group.
  • Retiring legacy tools and reducing the number of systems we have to keep alive.
  • Deputising for the Solutions Delivery & Automation Lead on technical decisions.

Requirements

You’ll take pride in systems that work reliably for years rather than solutions that demo well. You’ll enjoy untangling how things currently work, spotting where an integration will fail before it does, and leaving behind something a colleague could pick up and support without you.

You’ll be comfortable working with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, able to explain a constraint to someone who doesn’t want to hear it and keep the relationship intact. You’ll bring a genuine interest in developing others, and the confidence to review a colleague’s design and improve it. You’ll also be realistic about the shape of our business - it is seasonal, our hospitality and retail systems matter most at exactly the times other people are on holiday, and some of what you inherit will need untangling before it can be improved.

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • Substantial hands-on experience delivering business system integrations in a Microsoft environment.
  • Power Platform experience at solution level - managing environments, managed solutions, ALM, Dataverse and data loss prevention policies, not just building apps and flows.
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365, particularly SharePoint Online and Teams.
  • Modern integration methods: REST APIs, OAuth 2.0 and Entra ID authentication, standard and custom connectors, middleware, scheduled and event-driven file transfer, and proper handling of failure and retry.
  • SQL beyond basic querying, confidence with relational data models, and experience building reporting with Power BI and Microsoft Fabric.
  • A track record of supporting systems they built over a period of years, including incident response.
  • Evidence of mentoring or developing colleagues, and of reviewing others’ technical work.
  • Enough AI literacy to review, integrate, operate and constructively challenge tooling built by others.
  • An understanding of security, identity, governance and data protection in cloud environments.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and competing deadlines.
  • Confident communicating with technical and non-technical colleagues, including explaining a constraint to someone who doesn’t want to hear it.

It would be beneficial to have:

  • Azure integration and data services such as Data Factory, Logic Apps, Functions, API Management, Service Bus or Event Grid.
  • Scripting experience in PowerShell or Python.
  • Experience integrating with EPOS, hospitality, property management or finance platforms.
  • Experience integrating with a system that was being replaced underneath them.
  • Relevant current Microsoft certifications.
  • A valid UK Driving Licence.

Benefits & conditions

You’ll join a supportive and friendly IT team within a values-led organisation that genuinely cares about its people, with unusual variety in the work - farming and forestry, visitor attractions, hospitality and luxury accommodation, tenanted property and a significant development pipeline, across four estates in two countries. We’ll support your development with certification and training, and this role offers a clear path towards broader technical leadership as the function grows.

Pay: Up to ÂŁ40,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Bereavement leave
