Job description

Our client, a growing MSP, is hiring an experienced Project Engineer to scope, design and deliver a broad range of infrastructure, cloud, networking and security projects.

This is a hands-on technical role offering plenty of ownership. You’ll work directly with customers, taking projects from initial consultation and technical scoping through to implementation and handover.

What you’ll do

  • Scope, design and deliver infrastructure and cloud projects for a varied customer base
  • Deploy Windows Server, Active Directory / Entra ID, Hyper-V / VMware and backup & DR solutions
  • Deliver Microsoft 365 and Azure projects, including migrations and infrastructure improvements
  • Configure switches, firewalls, VPNs, VLANs and wireless networks
  • Implement endpoint protection, patch management and DLP solutions
  • Support security assessments including Cyber Essentials, PCI-DSS and vulnerability assessments
  • Provide technical consultancy, clearly explaining solutions, options and trade-offs to customers
  • Work with account managers to define project scope, timelines, deliverables and quotations
  • Produce accurate technical documentation, including network diagrams and configuration notes
  • Attend customer sites for installations and complex technical work where required

You’ll work closely with customers, account managers and technical colleagues to ensure projects are well scoped, delivered effectively and aligned with customer requirements.

Requirements

  • 5+ years’ experience within an MSP environment, ideally as a Project Engineer or 3rd Line Engineer with significant project responsibilities
  • Strong hands-on networking knowledge covering switching, routing, VLANs, trunking, LACP and STP
  • Experience configuring commercial firewalls, ideally WatchGuard and/or Meraki
  • Strong knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory / Entra ID and virtualisation
  • Experience delivering Microsoft 365 and Azure projects
  • Practical experience with VPNs, wireless networking and backup / disaster recovery
  • Strong customer-facing and technical consultancy skills
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites when required

CompTIA Network+, Microsoft and relevant networking or firewall certifications would be advantageous, although practical MSP experience and a strong service-focused approach are the priority.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable taking ownership of technical projects, communicating directly with customers and working across multiple technologies in a fast-moving MSP environment.

Benefits & conditions

  • £40,000 - £45,000 basic salary
  • Hybrid working (3-days in office)
  • Private healthcare and healthcare plan
  • Life assurance and Employee Assistance Programme
  • Employee discount scheme
  • Broad exposure to infrastructure, networking, cloud and security projects
  • Join a growing Managed Services team receiving continued investment
  • Opportunity to take genuine ownership of customer solutions
