Job description

We’re looking for a thoughtful, capable Website & Content Manager to cover a period of maternity leave. This is a hands-on role at the heart of how we present ourselves online - from the words on a product page to the rhythm of a blog post. You’ll be the person who keeps the website feeling alive, accurate, and true to who we are - and who makes sure the right people can find us.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Day-to-day management and updating of the Merchant & Mills website, including product listings, landing pages, and seasonal content.
  • Writing and editing copy that reflects the brand’s voice - considered, direct, and beautiful.
  • Implementing and managing SEO across the site: keyword research, on-page optimisation, meta titles and descriptions, internal linking, and structured data, with a focus on sustainable, long-term visibility.
  • Monitoring SEO performance using tools such as Google Search Console and Analytics, identifying opportunities, and acting on them.
  • Keeping an eye on site performance and flagging improvements, working with developers where needed.
  • Working with the marketing manager to support product launches with well-timed, well-crafted content.
  • Coordinating with the photography, wholesale, and retail teams to keep content accurate and current.
  • You may be required to log in briefly over a weekend to fix any website issues that could occur, or make something ‘go live’.

Requirements

Do you have experience in WordPress?, * You have solid experience managing an e-commerce website, ideally on Shopify or a similar platform.

  • You write well - clearly, with personality, and without fuss.
  • You have a good working knowledge of SEO best practice and know how to apply it without letting it flatten good writing. Confidence working with SEO and Analytics tools like Ahrefs and Hotjar as well as Google Search Console, GA4, Shopping & Ads is desirable.
  • You understand how good content works: not just what to say, but when and why.
  • You’re organised and calm under the pressure of a busy product calendar, and happy to work alone when needed.
  • You care about craft, making, and the things that go into creating something well.
  • An interest in sewing, fabric, or the maker world is genuinely useful.
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe suite tools is desirable.
