Job Description: The Race Systems Technician plays a crucial role in MRTCโs customer-facing operations, providing global on-site and remote technical support to motorsport and event-based customers in both individual and team environments. The role requires subject-matter expertise in a variety of communication systems, ensuring that MRTCโs wide range of equipment performs flawlessly under demanding conditions.
In addition to assisting with Level 3 remote support, the Race Systems Technician is responsible for system management and coordination, implementing thorough documentation and resolution tracking. By building customer relations and providing cutting-edge technical solutions, this role also ensures that MRTC remains at the forefront of the communications industry.
Role Expectation: As part of MRTCโs Race Support team, the Race Systems Technician is required to travel extensively to a range of motorsport venues. The role also demands adaptability, working out of hours (evenings and weekends, at an enhanced rate) aligned with racing schedules, and performing in all weather conditions. The position involves interfacing directly with race drivers, racing teams, suppliers, and organisations under the intense pressure of competition, where technical solutions can make the difference between success and failure on track.
This physically active role requires stamina for long days on site, the ability to lift and move equipment, and the capacity to communicate effectively, even in high-pressure, high-noise environments. The fast-paced nature of motorsport means that applicants for this role must be able to troubleshoot quickly with limited resources, making critical decisions in real-time during practice, qualifying, and race sessions.
Responsibilities:
ยท Lead individual trackside and remote technical support for high-profile customers in motorsport and events.
ยท Liaise and manage customer relationships, both pre- and post-event, offering technical solutions and encouraging business growth.
ยท Configure radio systems, intercom networks, and associated equipment live at event locations.
ยท Troubleshoot and resolve communication equipment issues in real time.
ยท Manage small-to-medium-sized events, utilising time prioritisation to support multiple customers and their communications systems at event locations.
ยท Build, test, and certify a wide variety of communications systems before deployment.
ยท Manage and maintain race support inventories to ensure up-to-date stock levels on site.
ยท Perform training for customers with regard to proper use and logical troubleshooting of systems.
Requirements
ยท Experience in technical support in motorsport, broadcast, AV industry, or military.
ยท Experience with two-way radios from global brands, such as Motorola or Kenwood.
ยท Understanding of radio protocols, such as TETRA, DMR, or Nexedge.
ยท Frequency management in UHF and VHF bands (simplex/duplex) for direct and trunk systems.
ยท Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
ยท Ability to work under pressure in time-sensitive situations.
ยท Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
ยท Willingness to travel extensively to race events (both nationally and internationally, for approximately 100 days a year).
ยท Valid driverโs licence with clean driving record.
ยท Good soldering and electronic repair skills.
ยท Strong verbal and written communication skills.
ยท Proficient use of diagnostic equipment and basic communications test equipment.
ยท Experience with managed network switches/routing, VPN, and other remote technologies.
ยท Excellent time management and organisational skills.
Desired Skills:
ยท Technical certification in electronics, telecommunications, or a related field.
ยท Understanding of radio frequency and spectrum management.
ยท Experience with AOIP technologies, such as AES67 and/or Dante.
ยท Knowledge of race operations and procedures., * Do you have experience in technical support in motorsport, broadcast, AV or Military?

- Do you have any direct experience in design and implementation of VHF/UHF/DMR/NXDN and IP-based Intercom and integration of those systems?
- Do you understand that this role includes approximately 100 days of travel (including evenings & weekends, aligned with racing schedules)?
- Do you have the Right to Work in the UK?
- Do you have a valid Driving Licence and Passport?
