Job description

Britannia is an international garment identification, packaging and technology solutions business supporting major retailers and brands across a global manufacturing network.

Technology plays an increasingly important role within our business. Alongside our core IT infrastructure, we operate a number of bespoke internal and customer-facing systems supporting order management, production, data processing, reporting and global operations.

As we continue to develop these systems and our wider technology environment, we are looking for an IT & Business Systems Support Engineer to join our Leicester-based team.

The Opportunity

This is primarily a hands-on IT support and systems infrastructure role, providing day-to-day technical support to our UK operation and helping to maintain the technology environment on which the business relies.

You’ll work across user support, hardware, software, networking, servers, access management, cloud services, security and general IT infrastructure, taking ownership of technical issues and helping to keep our systems running reliably.

What makes the position broader than a traditional IT support role is the opportunity to also become involved in our bespoke business systems.

Working alongside our Systems Developer and wider operational teams, you’ll gain exposure to application support, SQL, APIs, integrations, testing, automation and software development activities., * Provide responsive frontline IT support, predominantly to users within our UK operation.

  • Troubleshoot hardware, software, network, connectivity and system issues through to resolution or appropriate escalation.
  • Configure, deploy and maintain PCs, user devices, printers and associated workplace technology.
  • Administer user accounts, permissions and access rights.
  • Support and maintain servers, networks, cloud services and virtual environments.
  • Assist with system upgrades, patching, security, endpoint protection, backups and disaster recovery.
  • Monitor systems and respond to outages, alerts and business-critical technical issues.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and IT asset information.
  • Liaise with external IT and technology providers where required.
  • Provide remote technical support to our international operations where appropriate.
  • Develop an understanding of our bespoke internal business applications and their supporting technologies.
  • Assist with troubleshooting application and integration issues.
  • Support testing and validation of system enhancements and new functionality.
  • Assist with data investigation and SQL-based activities where appropriate.
  • Work alongside our Systems Developer on system maintenance, integrations, automation and technical improvements.
  • Where experience and capability allow, contribute to bug fixes and software development activities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve the reliability, efficiency and automation of our IT and business systems environment.

Requirements

You will ideally have commercial experience within an IT Support Engineer, Systems Support, Infrastructure Support or similar hands-on IT role.

You should have:

  • Strong knowledge of Windows environments and general IT infrastructure.
  • Good understanding of networking and connectivity.
  • Experience providing frontline IT support within a business environment.
  • Strong hardware and software troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with user administration, permissions and endpoint management.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Azure or similar cloud environments.
  • Understanding of IT security, patching, endpoint protection and access control.
  • An understanding of backup, disaster recovery and business continuity.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to take ownership of technical issues.
  • The confidence to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical colleagues.

Desirable - Business Systems & Development

You don’t need to be a software developer to be successful in this role.

However, experience or an interest in any of the following would be particularly valuable:

  • SQL and Microsoft SQL Server
  • APIs and system integrations
  • ERP or other integrated business systems
  • Microsoft Business Central
  • PowerShell, Bash, Python or other scripting/automation technologies
  • C# / ASP.NET Core
  • HTML, CSS, TypeScript or SASS
  • Docker/containerised applications
  • Git, source control or CI/CD
  • Software testing and deployment
  • Troubleshooting web-based business applications

We are particularly interested in candidates who enjoy understanding how systems work together, rather than focusing solely on one area of technology.

About You

You’ll be someone who enjoys solving problems and working directly with users rather than operating solely within a technical environment.

You’ll be comfortable moving between a user who needs help with a day-to-day IT issue and a more technical investigation involving infrastructure, data or a business application.

You’ll be organised, approachable and able to prioritise appropriately when multiple issues arise. Just as importantly, you’ll be keen to learn, share knowledge and develop a broader understanding of the technology supporting the business.

Benefits & conditions

This is an opportunity to take on a varied technical role where you’ll have exposure to considerably more than traditional IT support.

You’ll work across infrastructure, cloud technology, business applications, integrations, automation and bespoke software within an international business, with the opportunity to broaden your technical knowledge and contribute directly to how our systems develop.

The position is office based in Leicester, reflecting the hands-on and frontline support responsibilities of the role.

Salary dependant on experience and technical capability

Pay: £28,000.00-£34,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Casual dress
  • Free parking
  • On-site parking
  • Sick pay

Application question(s):

  • How many years of commercial experience do you have providing hands-on IT support within a business environment?
  • This role is primarily IT support and infrastructure, but also provides opportunities to become involved in business systems, integrations, automation and development. What interests you about this type of combined role?
