Job description

We’re looking for an experienced Full Stack Software Developer to join our in-house development team. You’ll work across our platform, contributing to Tapp Cloud and the payment solutions we deliver to merchants and platform partners., * Develop and maintain both front-end and back-end technology

  • Design and implement scalable, secure, and high-performance APIs
  • Write clean, functional, and well-documented code
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and optimise existing systems
  • Collaborate with other developers, designers, and product managers
  • Ensure code quality through testing, peer reviews, and best practices
  • Explore AWS services to enhance system performance and scalability
  • Continuously improve our software and development processes

Location & Working Pattern

  • Full-time - minimum of 37.5 hours per week
  • Based at our office in Portsmouth, Hampshire
  • Hybrid working: 3 days in the office, 2 days from home
  • Some office days will run 11am-7pm (with a 30-minute lunch break), to cover our later support hours
  • Some weekend working will be required - we offer support to our clients until 7pm, While this is primarily a Full Stack role, experience in Android development would be highly beneficial. If you have skills in native Android development using Kotlin, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to our mobile applications as well. This includes:
  • Developing and maintaining Android applications with Kotlin
  • Ensuring high performance and responsiveness across different devices
  • Integrating mobile applications with RESTful APIs and backend services
  • Optimising applications for performance, usability, and accessibility
  • Ensuring app security and compliance with best practices
  • Collaborating with front-end and backend developers to ensure seamless mobile and web integration

Security

Given the nature of our business, experience of security in development and systems would be highly beneficial. This includes:

  • Writing secure code and following secure coding practices
  • Identifying and mitigating common application vulnerabilities
  • Experience with secure API design and authentication/authorisation
  • Awareness of data protection and compliance requirements relevant to payments
  • Contributing to a security-conscious culture across the development team

Requirements

  • Proven, demonstrable experience as a full stack / software developer - this is not an entry-level or graduate role
  • Existing right to work in the UK (British passport or settled/pre-settled status). Please note: we are unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work closely with colleagues across the business
  • JavaScript / Node.js
  • React
  • SQL / MySQL
  • AWS, including Lambda and API Gateway
  • Confident working with GitHub for version control and collaborative development

Desirable

  • TypeScript
  • Infrastructure as Code (SAM, CloudFormation, Terraform or CDK)
  • Kotlin or Java - relevant given we build our own Android hardware; not core to this web/full-stack role but valuable where there’s any device-software crossover
  • Python
  • Payments/fintech domain exposure
  • Git/GitHub workflow and CI/CD
  • Experience using AI tools in development
