Job description

We’re looking for a hands-on Field Operations Specialist to manage IT Technology Rooms (MDF, IDF, and small datacenter environments) across a large, multi-site organization. This is a field-based, hands-on role - not a remote or desk-based IT position - ideal for someone who enjoys being on-site, working with physical hardware, and being the go-to person keeping technology rooms running smoothly.

What You’ll Do

  • Perform daily validation of equipment installed in IT Operations Rooms across multiple office locations
  • Install, connect, and configure backup power supplies (UPS) and power distribution units (PDU)
  • Maintain accurate, up-to-date hardware inventory across all supported sites
  • Keep IT Operations Rooms clean, organized, and properly labeled
  • Serve as the on-site point of contact for hardware vendors - coordinating deliveries, replacements, and RMAs
  • Partner with infrastructure teams to identify and resolve issues affecting installed hardware
  • Perform hardware replacements for failed components (hard drives, power supplies, etc.)
  • Rack and stack servers, switches, routers, appliances, and wireless access points
  • Commission UPS, PDU, and environmental monitoring devices (cooling, humidity)
  • Perform network patching - connecting patch cords to switches, routers, circuits, and servers
  • Support circuit cutovers in coordination with network and telecom teams
  • Un-rack, remove, and properly decommission retired hardware as part of refresh projects, This role is a great fit for someone who wants consistent, hands-on infrastructure work across a variety of real environments - not sitting behind a helpdesk queue. You’ll have direct ownership over the physical health of technology rooms, work closely with vendors, and play a key role in ongoing hardware refresh and modernization efforts., * Describe a specific IT Operations Room or server closet you managed - what equipment was in it, and what did your day-to-day responsibilities look like?

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in Field Operations / IT Infrastructure support
  • Hands-on experience managing MDF and IDF technology rooms
  • Working knowledge of IT infrastructure: Windows Servers, VMware, Cisco networking, Wi-Fi, VoIP, on-prem datacenter environments, desktops/laptops/smartphones, data circuits, UPS, PDU, and security surveillance systems
  • Comfortable with MS Office tools including Project, PowerPoint, Visio, Teams, and SharePoint
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to multitask and stay effective in a high-paced, high-pressure environment
  • Comfortable working independently or as part of a team to solve complex problems
  • Vendor management experience
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs
  • Willingness and ability to travel regularly between sites citywide, including 24x7 facilities, * Have you personally installed, connected, or commissioned a UPS or PDU? If yes, briefly describe one example
