This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and technically competent leader to oversee a team of field-based engineers, ensuring exceptional service delivery, operational performance, and customer satisfaction across a designated geographical region.
The successful candidate will play a key role in driving engineering excellence, maintaining compliance standards, and supporting business growth through effective team leadership and operational management.
Area Engineering Manager (Fire & Security) Role and Responsibilities:
- Lead, manage, and develop a team of field-based Fire & Security engineers across the South region.
- Conduct regular performance reviews, one-to-one meetings, and development plans to support engineer growth and engagement.
- Manage recruitment, onboarding, and training activities for new engineering personnel.
- Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and technical guidance to engineers in the field.
- Coordinate engineer availability, including management of on-call rotas and resource planning.
- Oversee day-to-day engineering operations, ensuring all works are completed efficiently and in line with customer expectations.
- Monitor service delivery against agreed SLAs and ensure jobs are completed within required timescales.
- Manage escalations, urgent reactive works, and attend customer sites when required to resolve technical or operational issues.
- Ensure engineers maintain accurate real-time updates within company systems and processes.
- Drive performance across key operational metrics including engineer productivity, utilisation, first-time fix rates, and reduction of open calls.
- Identify areas of underperformance and implement corrective actions to improve results.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, industry regulations, and health & safety requirements.
- Conduct audits, toolbox talks, safety inspections, and compliance reviews across the engineering team.
- Complete accident investigations and ensure all incidents are reported and managed appropriately.
- Ensure Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) and company procedures are followed at all times.
- Support the Regional Contracts Manager with client relationships and operational requirements.
- Attend customer meetings where required and proactively resolve operational concerns before escalation.
- Maintain regular communication with internal stakeholders and customers to ensure high levels of service and satisfaction.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Software development?, * Proven background within the Fire & Security industry.
- Previous experience leading, managing, or mentoring field-based engineering teams.
- Strong technical knowledge of Fire & Security systems and industry best practices.
- Experience working within a fast-paced service and maintenance environment.
- Thorough understanding of industry compliance, health & safety, and operational standards.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining high service levels.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities.
- Competent in performance management and operational reporting.
Benefits & conditions
- £45,000-£50,000 per annum
- Company Vehicle / Car Allowance, Phone, Laptop
- Full-Time, Permanent
- 40 Hours per Week (Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm)
- Field-Based Role Covering the South Region
