Job description

Perhaps you enjoy fault-finding and solving technical problems, but would like more predictable working hours and the opportunity to develop into a genuine product specialist. We’re recruiting for an established international manufacturer of fire and electronic security technology, which is looking to add a Fire Systems Technical Support Engineer to its Manchester team.

You’ll use your knowledge of fire detection and alarm systems to help installers, engineers and customers diagnose faults, commission systems and resolve technical issues.

This is predominantly an office-based position, providing support by telephone, email and remote connection. Once fully trained on the company’s systems, you’ll also occasionally visit customer sites to assist with commissioning and investigate more complex technical issues.

The company

You’ll be joining an established international technology manufacturer that designs and supports integrated fire and electronic security systems.

The business has a long-standing presence in the UK and supplies technology used across commercial property, residential developments, education and other safety-critical environments.

It continues to invest in its people and products, providing structured training and the opportunity to build knowledge across a broad portfolio of fire and security technology.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll become a key technical contact for customers, taking ownership of queries from initial diagnosis through to resolution.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing technical support by telephone, email and remote connection
  • Diagnosing faults across addressable and conventional fire alarm systems
  • Managing support tickets and keeping customers updated
  • Helping installers and engineers with system configuration, commissioning and troubleshooting
  • Escalating and investigating more complex product or system issues
  • Producing technical guides and customer support documentation
  • Identifying customers who could benefit from additional training
  • Supporting technical quotations and system specifications
  • Testing returned equipment and assisting with replacement-product queries
  • Evaluating new hardware and software releases
  • Supporting root-cause analysis and feeding recurring issues back to internal teams
  • Visiting customer sites for commissioning and technical investigation once fully trained
  • Gradually developing knowledge across the company’s wider electronic security portfolio

Requirements

You’ll need practical experience working with fire detection and alarm systems, together with the communication skills to explain technical information clearly to customers and engineers.

You’ll ideally bring:

  • Experience installing, servicing, commissioning or supporting fire alarm systems
  • Knowledge of addressable and conventional fire detection systems
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Knowledge of relevant UK fire legislation, regulations and industry standards
  • A good understanding of electrical or electronic engineering
  • Experience supporting customers or engineers with technical issues
  • The ability to explain technical information to people with different levels of experience
  • Strong problem-solving, customer-service and time-management skills
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows and networked or IT-connected systems
  • A full UK driving licence

Experience of voice alarm systems, access control, CCTV, door entry or other electronic security technology would be beneficial, but isn’t essential., This is a strong opportunity for an experienced fire systems professional who enjoys solving technical problems but wants to reduce the amount of time spent travelling between customer sites.

Benefits & conditions

  • Competitive salary
  • 25 days’ annual leave plus bank holidays
  • Occasional site work rather than a permanently field-based schedule
  • Bonus and commission schemes
  • Four-times salary life assurance
  • Salary-sacrifice pension scheme
  • Employee benefits and rewards platform
  • 24/7 online GP appointments, health and wellbeing support
  • Free eye tests and flu vaccinations
  • Company social, charity and wellbeing events
