Job description
We operate in a high-volume, low-margin industry where reliability and speed both matter. Our automation directly affects how dealerships run and how colleagues do their jobs. The work has stakes, and we take that seriously, but we donât let it tip into anxiety. We keep cycles short, get feedback quickly, and improve incrementally.
Youâll be expected to understand the why behind what youâre building, communicate clearly when things are unclear, and flag problems early. Weâd rather hear about an issue on day two than discover it on day ten.
About Vertu Motors Plc.
Twenty years under the same leadership team has given us genuine stability and a clear direction. We recently completed a significant âOne Vertuâ transformation, consolidating Bristol Street Motors and Macklin Motors into a single unified platform, a major engineering undertaking thatâs still delivering change. Our technology mission is simple to describe and hard to execute: understand complexity, deliver simplicity.
We are proud to be the Motor Retailer who invests more in our colleaguesâ personal development than any other. If you are successful, you can look forward to ongoing training opportunities that provide you with the right career path, career progression, and a range of benefits you would expect from an employer of choice, including:
- 25 days holiday rising with length of service, plus bank holidays
- Access to our online rewards platform, giving you cash back and discounts for multiple retailers
- Preferential Service Rates
- Colleague Purchase Scheme
- Share Incentive Scheme
- Pension
- Enhanced Maternity and Paternity
If your application is successful, we will need to complete employment checks prior to you starting with us. Your role will include verifying your recent employment, credit history, and a criminal record check.
Requirements
Do you have experience in TypeScript?, Do you have a Masterâs degree?, * RPA experience: Hands-on experience building and maintaining robotic process automation, using tools such as UiPath, Blue Prism, Power Automate, or similar.
- C# / .NET experience: Solid, practical development experience in C# and .NET.
- A polyglot mindset: You can demonstrate that you work, or can confidently learn to work, across more than one programming language. You donât need to be fluent in our full stack (Golang, C#, TypeScript, and Python), but you need to be the kind of engineer who picks up new languages without friction.
- AI workflow experience: Youâre already using AI-assisted development tools (such as GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, or Cursor) as part of how you work day to day.
Nice to have:
- AI integration experience: Embedding AI capabilities directly into a product or process (LLM-powered features, AI APIs, agents, or similar).
- Cloud experience: Hands-on work with AWS or Azure, deploying and managing services in production environments.
- Full-stack and serverless experience: Working across frontend, backend, APIs, and data, including serverless technologies (Lambda, event-driven architectures, or equivalent).
- Broader software engineering experience: Prior experience working as a software engineer on solutions that arenât necessarily RPA-related.
- Experience with databases (SQL or NoSQL), scripting, or writing standalone tools and background workers.

Company pension, Permanent Full Time Hybrid Gateshead ÂŁ40,000-ÂŁ50,000 depending on experience
About the company
Weâre hiring an RPA Developer to join our engineering team at Vertu Motors Plc., a business that buys and sells cars, parts, and time across 190+ dealerships nationwide, supported by technology built and maintained by a tight-knit team of engineers.
The problems we solve are real and close to the surface. A business running at ÂŁ4bn annual revenue, with 7,500+ colleagues, depends on processes that run reliably and efficiently behind the scenes. Youâll build and maintain the automation that takes manual, repetitive work off our colleaguesâ plates, freeing them to focus on customers. This is work with direct, measurable business impact.
This is a role for someone who has built automation in the real world and wants to grow their breadth as an engineer. Youâll start from a foundation of RPA and C#/.NET, and youâll have the room (and the support) to work across more of the stack, more languages, and AI-assisted ways of building. We move fast, ship frequently, and learn from what we build.
This role is hybrid. The successful candidate will be ideally based in the Northeast and will be working approximately three days per week at our head office in Gateshead. We are open to considering fully remote candidates for the right person, with the expectation that they may be required to travel to our head office in Gateshead, or their local dealership, at least once a month.
What Youâll Work On
Your first 30 days will be about understanding our automation estate, the teamâs rhythm, and the business context behind what we build, getting familiar with how we ship and where you can start adding value alongside the rest of the team. By 90 days, youâll be contributing to automations and fixes across our process areas, pairing with teammates, and developing a clear picture of how the systems fit together. At six months, youâll be actively contributing to various parts of the teamâs code estate, specifically working on cloud-based automations and AI solutions over and above RPA solutions, supporting each otherâs delivery, and helping us ship with confidence.
This is a team role through and through. We pair, review each otherâs code, and solve problems together. Psychological safety is non-negotiable; there are no silly questions, no heroics, no single points of failure.
