Job description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Microsoft Systems Engineer to support enterprise Windows infrastructure, endpoint management, automation, application hosting, and Microsoft cloud technologies for a federal customer.
This position requires strong hands-on experience with PowerShell, Active Directory, Windows Server, Windows 11, SCCM, Group Policy, and enterprise systems administration. The engineer will take ownership of complex technical issues, infrastructure upgrades, application migrations, automation initiatives, and organization-wide incidents., * Provide senior-level engineering and operational support for enterprise Microsoft Windows environments.
- Administer and support Windows Server 2019, 2022, and newer server environments.
- Manage enterprise Windows 11 workstation configurations and lifecycle activities.
- Provide senior-level support for Microsoft SCCM/MECM, including software packaging and distribution.
- Develop and maintain PowerShell automation for Windows administration and operational processes.
- Support workstation imaging, baseline configuration, deployment, and operating-system troubleshooting.
- Administer Active Directory and Group Policy, including recommending and implementing new GPOs.
- Support application migrations, infrastructure upgrades, integrations, and platform modernization activities.
- Lead troubleshooting and resolution of enterprise-wide Windows server and workstation outages.
- Configure, optimize, and troubleshoot Microsoft IIS application-hosting environments.
- Apply security configuration standards and DISA STIGs to maintain approved system baselines.
- Implement application-control and security policies using AppLocker.
- Support certificate management and enterprise identity services.
- Troubleshoot TCP/IP and network-connectivity issues affecting Windows systems.
- Create and maintain system architecture and design diagrams.
- Process changes, incidents, and technical tasks through ServiceNow or comparable ITSM platforms.
- Develop standard operating procedures and technical work instructions.
- Participate in after-hours on-call support and scheduled maintenance activities.
- Support disaster-recovery exercises and system-recovery activities.
- Engage vendors and federal stakeholders to resolve complex technical issues and plan future implementations.
Requirements
The ideal candidate is a senior Microsoft engineer who is comfortable operating in a large enterprise environment, solving complex production problems, and interacting directly with technical teams and federal customers., * Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of relevant experience, or master’s degree and 3+ years of relevant experience. Additional professional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Advanced experience with Microsoft PowerShell scripting and automation.
- Strong experience administering Active Directory.
- Strong experience with Windows Server 2019/2022.
- Enterprise experience administering Windows 11 workstations.
- Experience analyzing Windows system and application logs.
- Hands-on experience administering Group Policy Objects (GPOs).
- Experience with enterprise workstation imaging, configuration, and software deployment.
- Experience with SCCM/MECM or comparable endpoint-management platforms.
- Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking and command-line network troubleshooting.
- Experience implementing Microsoft Windows Server administration best practices.
- Ability to independently troubleshoot complex issues affecting organization-wide operations.
- Experience using enterprise ticketing platforms such as ServiceNow or Remedy.
- Strong scripting, automation, troubleshooting, and analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of complex technical issues.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a federal Public Trust.
Preferred Qualifications
- Active Public Trust and existing GFE access.
- Advanced PowerShell automation experience.
- Microsoft Azure experience.
- Experience with Windows Server 2025.
- Certificate-management experience.
- Working knowledge of LDAP.
- Experience administering IIS, AppLocker, and DISA STIG-compliant configurations.
- Familiarity with ITIL v4 practices.
- Experience with enterprise tools including SCOM, InfoBlox DNS, BigFix, and SCCM/MECM.
- Experience supporting Microsoft environments for federal customers.
