Job description

We are looking for a Graduate Data Analyst to join our team and help dissect commercial data for a significant engagement with our client, a major British financial services organization. In this role, you will analyze transaction records and portfolio economics to test the core operational and financial assumptions that underpin their strategic roadmap. About Blue Oak Consulting provides independent advisory on pricing, portfolio economics, capital allocation, and acquisition assumptions. We are not a traditional consulting firm focused on broad transformation programs or high-level strategy slides. Instead, we interrogate specific commercial decisions where the financial stakes are high and the existing narrative is not sufficient. Our team looks past corporate language and P&L complexity to identify where value is leaking or capital is trapped. We work across sectors like retail, manufacturing, and financial services to test whether the assumptions behind a growth plan or an acquisition actually hold under pressure. We are a small, principal-led firm where the people who do the work are the ones accountable for the results. We do not take transaction-contingent fees, which allows us to be completely honest about whether the economics of a decision make sense. Our goal is to provide clarity through financial discipline and a healthy amount of skepticism., As a Graduate Data Analyst, you will work closely with senior partners to audit financial models and challenge projections. This is a hybrid position, combining the convenience of working from home blocks with collaborative, focus-driven in-person days in the office. You will not be isolated in a large corporate hierarchy; instead, you will have early access to complex files and help construct the quantitative analysis that our advisory work depends on. What you will be doing

  • Reviewing operational datasets to clean, process, and organize client information.
  • Evaluating financial models and auditing the equations behind commercial growth projections.
  • Building clear, mathematically sound spreadsheets to model pricing changes and portfolio economics.
  • Drafting concise summaries that explain your data findings without relying on business jargon.
  • Collaborating with our consulting team to compile evidence for our British financial services client engagement.

Requirements

  • A completed university degree, ideally in finance, economics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field with strong quantitative elements.
  • A genuine comfort working with numerical data and an interest in financial analysis.
  • Practiced familiarity with spreadsheet tools like Microsoft Excel and a willingness to learn advanced modeling techniques.
  • A natural curiosity and a tendency to question underlying assumptions rather than taking numbers at face value.
  • Clear, direct communication skills, both in writing and spoken discussion.
  • The ability to thrive in a hybrid model, balancing self-directed home tasks with active team participation during office sessions.

Benefits & conditions

  • A permanent, full-time paid position with competitive pay for an entry-level professional.
  • A balanced hybrid work schedule that supports focused home concentration alongside office-based team collaboration.
  • Direct mentorship and daily learning opportunities from senior principals in the firm.
  • An environment that values clear thinking and structured analysis over corporate buzzwords.
  • Practical development of your commercial and analytical skills on actual commercial engagements.

About the company

We avoid complicated slides and instead focus on providing our clients with honest, well-researched numbers. Joining us as a Graduate Data Analyst means you will contribute directly to meaningful commercial decisions from the start, learning how to look past surface narratives to understand how business economics really work.
