The Senior Director, Digital Innovation - Essentials is responsible for defining Walmart’s long-term vision for how customers plan, purchase, replenish, and receive the everyday items they need most.
Operating as a business builder and transformation executive, this leader will reimagine essentials shopping by creating intelligent, proactive experiences that reduce the effort required to manage everyday needs. This includes exploring how AI, personalization, predictive capabilities, automation, and Walmart’s fulfillment ecosystem can anticipate customer needs, simplify routine shopping, and make Walmart the most convenient destination for everyday essentials.
Success in this role requires thinking beyond today’s transactional shopping journey to invent experiences that help customers plan less, remember less, and effortlessly get what they need, when and how they need it.
This role partners closely with Merchandising, Marketplace, Product, Engineering, Design, Marketing, Data Science, Supply Chain, and Operations to build customer experiences from concept through scale while influencing enterprise strategy and shaping the future of digital commerce.

What You’ll Do
- Define Walmart’s North Star vision for Essentials shopping, identifying how customers will plan, purchase, replenish, and receive everyday needs over the next 3-5 years.
- Reinvent routine and replenishment shopping, moving from customer-initiated transactions toward intelligent experiences that anticipate needs and reduce shopping effort.
- Develop AI-enabled planning and personalization capabilities that understand household needs, purchasing patterns, preferences, and changing circumstances.
- Connect shopping and fulfillment experiences, using Walmart’s store and fulfillment network to create differentiated experiences around availability, speed, convenience, and reliability.
- Identify and build new customer propositions across recurring purchases, replenishment, household planning, subscriptions, bundles, and other emerging shopping models.
- Operate as the General Manager for a digital capability, taking ideas from concept through validation while building the business case, driving core metrics, creating best-in-class customer experiences, and enabling the cross-functional execution needed to scale.
- Prioritize investments based on customer impact and business value, measuring success through adoption, engagement, retention, incremental and attributable GMV, and improvements in customer convenience.
- Partner across Merchandising, Marketplace, Product, Engineering, Design, Marketing, Data Science, Supply Chain, and Operations to align enterprise priorities and deliver one cohesive customer experience.
- Prepare successful capabilities for adoption across Walmart’s broader eCommerce organizations, ensuring innovations can scale to serve millions of customers.
- Build and develop high-performing teams while fostering a culture of curiosity, experimentation, customer obsession, and bold thinking.
Requirements
- An entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to think like a founder-balancing long-term vision with pragmatic execution to build experiences that meaningfully simplify customers’ everyday lives.
- Proven experience defining bold customer visions and transforming them into scalable digital products, businesses, or customer experiences, ideally within high-frequency, replenishment, grocery, household, or convenience-oriented shopping journeys.
- Demonstrated success operating in highly ambiguous environments-identifying emerging customer needs, validating new concepts, and building businesses or capabilities from the ground up.
- A strong understanding of digital commerce, consumer behavior, AI, personalization, predictive technologies, and emerging shopping models, with the curiosity to continuously explore what’s next.
- Strong business and operational acumen, with the ability to connect customer experience innovation to fulfillment capabilities, economics, adoption, retention, and measurable business growth.
- Exceptional cross-functional leadership with the ability to influence senior executives and align diverse teams across business, product, technology, merchandising, supply chain, and operations around a shared customer vision.
- A customer-first mindset with a passion for eliminating friction and creating intelligent, convenient experiences that make routine shopping easier, faster, and more reliable.

Option 1: Bachelor’s degree in computer science, management information systems, industrial engineering, engineering management, business,information systems, project/program management, information technology, finance, management, or related area and 7 years’ experience inproject management, program management, program operations, or related area.Option 2: 9 years’ experience in project management, program management, program operations, or related area.4 years’ supervisory experience.
