Job description

  • Maintain accurate pension member records by checking, updating, and correcting data across multiple systems.
  • Cross-check employer and member data to ensure accuracy and consistency for LGPS pension records.
  • Process and verify pension administration tasks including applications for benefits, transfers, and membership changes.
  • Support calculation checks for pension benefits, including Final Salary and CARE (Career Average Revalued Earnings) schemes.
  • Assist in processing aggregations of pension benefits in line with scheme regulations and technical guidance.
  • Ensure data quality by identifying and correcting errors in pension and membership information.
  • Update records relating to new starters, leavers, and changes in circumstances within required timescales.
  • Work with pensions administration systems (e.g. Altair or equivalent) and HR/payroll systems.
  • Support interpretation and application of Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with data protection, quality assurance standards, and pension regulations.
  • Communicate with internal teams and occasionally external stakeholders to resolve data queries.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and support reporting requirements as needed.
  • Work independently while also contributing to team-based processing targets and deadlines.

Requirements

Do you have a NVQ?, * GCSEs (or equivalent) including Maths and English (essential).

  • NVQ/QCF Level 2 or equivalent experience (acceptable alternative).

Experience

  • Experience working with MS Office, especially Excel (essential).
  • Experience handling and manipulating data across systems accurately.
  • Experience using pensions administration systems (e.g. Altair or similar) (desirable).
  • Experience working with HR or payroll systems (desirable).
  • Basic understanding of Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) (desirable).
  • Experience working in a data processing, finance, or administration environment (desirable).

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong IT skills, especially Excel and data management tools.
  • Good attention to detail and ability to maintain high data accuracy.
  • Understanding of quality assurance principles.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to follow procedures and work within regulatory guidelines.
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to manage varied workloads and prioritise tasks effectively.
