Job description
We are hiring an Embedded Linux / RTOS Software Engineer to support software loading, verification, and integration for vehicle electronic systems and ground combat vehicle environments. This role focuses on C/C++ embedded software development, VxWorks and Linux/RTOS integration, Yocto and Buildroot system images, Linux system programming, hardware bring-up, software verification, and deployment of official software releases to laboratory and vehicle environments., This engineer will support the full software development life cycle (SDLC), including requirements, architecture, design, coding, integration, verification, testing, deployment, and maintenance. The role also includes Linux kernel and device driver development, performance optimization, build system integration, cybersecurity, cryptography, secure architectures, and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD)., * Design, configure, and test a new software development environment used to create documentation, source code, test artifacts, and other software work products.
- Develop embedded software documentation and code across vehicle domains including board support, displays, power management, lethality, software deployment, embedded training, and diagnostics.
- Perform software requirements analysis and develop supporting technical documentation.
- Develop preliminary and detailed software designs using department-approved software design tools and standards.
- Develop software designs that influence overall ground combat vehicle architecture.
- Develop code to implement approved software designs in accordance with established development standards and procedures.
- Develop test procedures and perform unit and functional testing of executable software.
- Perform hardware/software integration across embedded vehicle systems.
- Debug and resolve software issues identified throughout development, integration, and testing.
- Integrate software releases across multiple Computer Software Configuration Items (CSCIs) into overall vehicle software releases.
- Provide development task status and technical updates to software project leads.
- Collaborate with Systems Engineering, Project Management, Software Quality, and other departments and business units.
- Lead Agile/Scrum ceremonies, including daily Scrum meetings, Program Increment (PI) Planning events, retrospectives, and demonstrations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
U.S. Citizenship required by law or government contract
- Ability to Obtain a Secret Clearance
- Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
- 5-7 years of relevant embedded software engineering experience.
- Experience developing maintainable C and/or C++ software for long-life embedded systems.
- Experience with the full software development life cycle, including requirements, use cases, architecture, design, development, testing, integration, and deployment.
- Experience troubleshooting low-level software issues and isolating hardware versus software problems.
- Strong understanding of asynchronous and real-time programming concepts, including multiple processes, threads, timers, and interrupts.
- Experience developing and debugging complex existing software systems and codebases.
- Working knowledge of embedded hardware bring-up and low-level system debugging.
- Experience with Linux system image build tools such as Yocto and/or Buildroot.
- Experience with Wind River VxWorks and VxWorks development/debugging tools such as Workbench.
- Experience with Linux kernel development.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work in hybrid/onsite environments with up to 100% onsite presence as required., * Experience with safety-critical and/or real-time embedded systems.
- Experience with Eclipse, Git, GCC, DOORS, Jira, Bitbucket, Confluence, GDB, and/or Qt.
- Experience with Agile software development, GitLab, Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), and CI agents.
- Experience with Type I and Type II hypervisors.
- Familiarity with embedded self-update strategies and open-source self-updating technologies.
- Experience with Linux device drivers, bootloaders, memory maps, and other low-level Linux system programming.
- Familiarity with SELinux, verified boot, and Trusted Execution Environments (TEEs).
- Familiarity with cybersecurity principles including authentication, nonrepudiation, confidentiality, and integrity using digital signatures and encryption.
- Experience implementing embedded system security using cryptography and secure architectures.
- Experience with NIST quantum-resistant cryptographic algorithms.
- Previous experience supporting ground combat vehicles.
- Experience applying continuous improvement processes and methodologies.
