Job description

We are seeking a Data Center Technician 2 (S2) to support server operations within customer data centers in Boydton, VA. This role is ideal for someone with hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing computer/server hardware, managing cabling, performing diagnostics, and completing data center operations tasks. The technician will work independently as well as with local and geographically distributed teams. The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, self-motivated, safety-conscious, and comfortable working in a fast-paced data center environment., * Prepare, stage, install, start up, and shut down data center hardware, including servers, racks, hard drives, and network switches.

  • Perform hands-on hardware break/fix, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and component replacement.
  • Identify root causes of hardware failures and minimize customer/business disruption.
  • Complete post-installation quality checks, including grounding, labeling, staging, and cabling.
  • Decommission and refresh hardware, including memory upgrades and operating system rebuilds.
  • Complete assigned tickets within established KPI and SLA requirements.
  • Assist other technicians with complex or challenging technical tasks.
  • Support server fleet health tracking, failure analysis, and investigation of emerging hardware failure trends.
  • Use diagnostic tools and IPMI for server monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Perform firmware updates, hardware testing, and system diagnostics.
  • Troubleshoot networking issues across Layer 1, Layer 2, and Layer 3.
  • Support Windows Server, WinPE, Linux, and PXE-related activities.
  • Configure virtual machines and related environments.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, knowledge-base articles, and operational procedures.
  • Escalate incidents and technical issues to appropriate management when required.
  • Participate in safety briefings and follow all data center safety procedures.

Requirements

  • Hands-on server/computer hardware troubleshooting and break/fix experience.
  • Strong understanding of hardware components and system-level failures.
  • Experience with IPMI for server diagnostics.
  • Experience with hardware diagnostics, testing, and firmware updates.
  • Basic Windows Server and WinPE administration.
  • Basic Linux knowledge; Linux PXE knowledge is a plus.
  • Basic scripting experience with PowerShell, Python, or Bash.
  • Network troubleshooting across L1/L2/L3.
  • Experience setting up virtual machines and configuring environments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong ticket management and ability to complete work within established SLAs., * 1+ year of experience as a Data Center Technician or in a closely related technical support/hardware role.
  • Hands-on experience with PC/server repair and hardware break/fix.
  • Windows OS experience.
  • Ability to troubleshoot hardware and technical issues independently.
  • Associate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience preferred.
