Job description

An active Secret clearance is required, and the candidate must be eligible to obtain and maintain TS/SCI clearance.

The VDI Administrator will design and implement virtual desktop infrastructure; manage virtual machines, desktop templates, host pools, hypervisors, server capacity, and related resources; and monitor the environment for performance and availability. The role also handles complex troubleshooting, backup and disaster recovery, security controls, patching, and system upgrades.

The ideal candidate has hands-on VDI administration experience, proficiency with a platform such as VMware Horizon, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, or Microsoft Remote Desktop Services, and a solid understanding of virtualization, networking, storage, and security. The position requires careful capacity planning and practical support for desktops, applications, and user connectivity.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Architect, design, implement, and maintain the virtual desktop infrastructure and supporting technology.

  • Install, configure, maintain, and support hypervisor software and associated server hardware.
  • Plan resource allocation and capacity to keep VDI services reliable and available.
  • Monitor the VDI environment for performance, resource use, health, and availability; identify emerging issues before they affect users.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues involving virtual desktops, applications, user connectivity, hypervisors, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Investigate root causes of VDI incidents and provide expert-level support and timely resolutions.
  • Identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies, then tune the environment to improve system performance.
  • Conduct regular backups of VDI components and implement disaster recovery procedures.
  • Implement and maintain security measures that protect VDI systems, virtual desktops, and user data.
  • Plan and execute VDI software patches, security updates, and system upgrades.

Requirements

  • Must hold an active Secret clearance.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain TS/SCI clearance.
  • Five or more years of hands-on experience in a VDI administration role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field; four additional years of relevant experience may substitute for the degree.
  • Proficiency with VDI technologies such as VMware Horizon, Citrix Virtual Apps and Desktops, or Microsoft Remote Desktop Services (RDS).
  • Strong understanding of virtualization concepts and hypervisor technologies such as VMware vSphere or Microsoft Hyper-V.
  • Expert-level troubleshooting skills and the ability to resolve complex VDI issues effectively.
  • Familiarity with networking, storage, and security principles relevant to VDI environments.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Professional certification such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP), Citrix Certified Professional - Virtualization (CCP-V), or an equivalent credential.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position for approximately 50% of the time.
  • Ability to occasionally move within the office to access file cabinets, office equipment, and other work areas.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity equipment.
  • Ability to position oneself to maintain computers in the lab, including under desks and in a server closet.
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers, management, and customers, including presenting information and exchanging accurate details.
  • May be asked to move audio/visual or computer equipment weighing up to 50 pounds across or around a business campus or large facility.
