Job description

Data Surge is seeking a Data Scientist to support data-driven innovation across government services. In this role, you will help develop and improve predictive models, build data pipelines, and turn complex datasets into actionable insights that support public service delivery and operational transparency.

You will collaborate with engineering, policy, and operations teams to develop analytics solutions aligned with agency priorities and regulatory requirements. The work involves structured and unstructured data, intelligent help agents, identity verification, and responsible AI practices in government environments.

This is a full-time remote position open to candidates located in the continental United States. Due to the nature of the work, applicants must be U.S. citizens.

Key Responsibilities

*Contribute to predictive models that estimate processing timelines for public service requests and provide personalized status updates to end users.

*Support the development and deployment of models across additional service areas based on agency priorities.

*Collaborate with cross-functional teams to expand intelligent help agents through integration with external data sources and applications.

*Develop data cleaning and scrubbing approaches to ensure unstructured data is accurate, appropriate, and safe for public-facing use.

*Analyze customer data, including biometric and behavioral signals, to identify reliable indicators for identity verification.

*Help design, build, and maintain ETL pipelines that transition transactional data into customer- or citizen-centric data models.

*Communicate technical findings through visualizations, reports, and dashboards for technical and non-technical audiences.

*Work with policy, engineering, and operations teams to ensure analytics solutions support mission objectives and regulatory requirements.

*Contribute to data governance, ethical AI, and responsible data-use initiatives in government settings.

*Participate in Agile workflows and support the continuous delivery of data science capabilities.

Requirements

*At least 3 years of experience in data science, analytics, or applied machine learning.

*Proficiency in Python for data analysis, modeling, and pipeline development, including tools such as pandas, scikit-learn, and NumPy.

*Experience working with structured and unstructured data, including data cleaning and feature engineering.

*Working knowledge of SQL, relational databases, and ETL concepts.

*Strong understanding of predictive modeling and statistical methods.

*Ability to handle sensitive data securely and in compliance with applicable requirements.

*Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document analytical findings and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.

*Familiarity with Agile or iterative software development methodologies.

*U.S. citizenship.

Preferred Qualifications

*Experience working with federal government datasets or government projects.

*Familiarity with chatbot technologies, intelligent agents, or API integrations.

*Exposure to biometric data or identity verification systems.

*Experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP) in secure environments.

*Knowledge of data governance frameworks and responsible AI practices.

*An existing security clearance. A clearance is preferred but not required.

Benefits & conditions

Data Surge offers a competitive compensation and total rewards package, including:

*Remote work environment.

*Paid time off, including holidays and your birthday.

*401(k) plan with a 4% employer match that is immediately vested.

*Growth and professional development opportunities.

*Bonus opportunities and additional benefits.
