Job description
Capstone IT is helping our client find a Network Support Technician who will support a large-scale network modernization initiative across hundreds of retail locations nationwide. This person will work with field technicians and network engineers to validate newly installed network equipment, confirm devices are communicating properly, document results, troubleshoot basic issues, and escalate more complex network problems. This is a strong opportunity for someone coming from Help Desk, Service Desk, Desktop Support, NOC, or technical support who wants to build deeper hands-on networking experience.
Top 4 Skills
- Technical support and troubleshooting
- TCP/IP and basic networking fundamentals
- Switches, routers, and wireless networking
- Ticketing systems / Jira Service Desk
Responsibilities
- Support enterprise network deployments across hundreds of retail locations.
- Work with field technicians after new network equipment has been installed.
- Follow standardized network validation and checkout procedures.
- Verify connectivity and functionality of switches, routers, wireless access points, security cameras, and VoIP devices.
- Perform basic troubleshooting when equipment or connectivity is not functioning as expected.
- Escalate more complex network problems to network engineers.
- Track deployment progress and outstanding technical issues.
- Document troubleshooting, validation results, and completed work in Jira Service Desk.
- Develop greater troubleshooting ownership as knowledge of the environment grows., This role supports a large nationwide network modernization program involving hundreds of retail locations. The technician sits between the field installation team and more experienced network engineers.
Field technicians physically install equipment at a store. The Network Support Technician then helps validate that the new infrastructure is working correctly. That includes checking routers, switches, wireless access points, cameras, and VoIP devices, documenting the results, and identifying anything that requires additional troubleshooting.
The role is deliberately structured as a progression opportunity. Someone with a Help Desk, Service Desk, Desktop Support, or junior NOC background can enter with foundational networking knowledge and gain exposure to enterprise network deployments.
The key difference from a traditional Help Desk position is that the technician is supporting network infrastructure and deployments, rather than primarily supporting individual users, laptops, passwords, or desktop applications.
Requirements
- Experience in Help Desk, Service Desk, Technical Support, Desktop Support, NOC, or a similar technical support environment.
- Experience troubleshooting technical issues and following established procedures.
- Strong documentation and ticket-management skills.
