IT Field Technician (Part-Time)

• Drive to client homes and businesses in the Middletown area to diagnose and fix computer problems: slow machines, malware, failed drives, Windows and Mac issues, printers, email. (Vehicle and valid license required. Mileage and paid travel time provided.)
• Set up new computers, migrate data, and install software
• Install and troubleshoot networks: routers, switches, access points, and run cabling
• Install security camera systems, including running cable and mounting cameras, typically working with 1-2 others or independently
• Document your work in detail in our ticketing system so the next person can pick it up
• Represent the company in people’s homes and offices with patience and good manners, along with a professional presentation

• 2 or more years of hands-on experience fixing computers and working with small networks, paid or serious hobbyist
• Sales or customer service/client-facing experience a plus. Not required, but you must be personable.
• Comfortable with Windows 10/11 and Windows troubleshooting; Mac and basic Microsoft 365 experience a plus
• Can run cable, terminate jacks, and work on a ladder. Will train on this for the right candidate.
• Must be able to lift 50 lbs and climb ladders
• Reliable car, valid Connecticut driver’s license, and current insurance
• Able to explain a technical problem to someone who isn’t technical, without talking down to them
• Honest, on time, and willing to say “I don’t know, let me find out”
• Must pass a background check (you’ll be working inside clients’ homes and on their systems)

Nice to have: CompTIA A+ or Network+, UniFi experience, security camera installs, any exposure to NIST 800-171 or CMMC., * Do you have a reliable vehicle, a valid Connecticut driver’s license, and current auto insurance?

• Are you able to work about 24 hours per week, spread over 3 days a week? (The days are flexible and can be set around your availability.)

• Potential to grow into full-time as the business grows. As our first field technician, you will be well positioned for a lead technician/management position as we expand.
• $28-$30 per hour depending on experience, paid biweekly by direct deposit
• Company-provided laptop, phone, and tools, plus mileage reimbursement for work driving
• Paid sick leave under Connecticut law
• Time is tracked by a phone app while you’re on the clock, including GPS, so you don’t have to keep a mileage log by hand

CT Tech Express is a managed IT services and computer repair company based in Middletown. We take care of the technology for small businesses across central Connecticut and fix computers for homeowners who would rather talk to a person than a call center. We handle networking, security cameras, managed IT, compliance work, and the occasional web project, and we do it with one standard: treat every client like we would our own family.

The owner has been doing this for 30 years and is hiring his first technician. You’ll work directly with him and his small team, not with a dispatcher or a help desk queue.
