Job description
We’re hiring an Engineering Manager building and running [product/platform area]. You’ll own delivery, team health, and technical direction for your area, and you’ll partner closely with product, design, and client stakeholders.
This is a hands-on leadership role. You won’t be writing production code every day, but you’ll be close enough to the work to review designs, unblock hard problems, and make sound technical calls.
What you’ll do:
- Lead and grow the team. Run 1:1s, set clear expectations, give direct feedback, and own performance reviews and promotions.
- Hire well. Define hiring needs, run interview loops, and build a team with a strong bar and a good mix of skills.
- Own delivery. Plan work with product, break down scope, manage dependencies, and ship predictably without burning people out.
- Shape technical direction. Guide architecture and design decisions, manage tech debt, and keep quality, security, and reliability high.
- Run healthy operations. Own on-call, incident response, and postmortems for your services. Track metrics that matter (delivery, quality, uptime).
- Work across teams. Represent your team in planning, communicate status and risks clearly, and handle trade-off conversations with stakeholders and clients.
- Improve how we work. Spot friction in process, tooling, or communication and fix it.
Requirements
- 7+ years in software engineering, with at least 2 years managing engineers directly (hiring, reviews, career growth).
- A solid technical foundation in [primary stack, e.g. Java/Python/Node, React, AWS/Azure/GCP]. You can hold your own in a design review.
- A track record of shipping production systems on schedule, with a team that’s still happy afterward.
- Experience with agile delivery, CI/CD, and modern engineering practices (code review, testing, observability).
- Clear written and spoken communication. You can explain a technical trade-off to a client or exec without losing the room.
- Good judgment under ambiguity. You make decisions with incomplete information and adjust when you learn more.
Nice to have
- Experience in a services or consulting environment, managing client expectations alongside delivery.
- Led distributed or multi-time-zone teams.
- Background in [fintech, healthcare, data platforms, AI/ML].
- Scaled a team through rapid growth or rebuilt one that was struggling.
- Familiarity with cloud cost management, security compliance (SOC 2, ISO 27001), or platform engineering.
Benefits & conditions
Salary range: $180,000 to $220,000 per year. The final offer will depend on several factors, including location, experience, skills, education, and certifications.
