Job description

Works with MARTA employees to perform advanced analysis, requirement definition, design, coding, testing, modify and/or improve one or more complex Information Technology Systems. Provides advanced level analysis and occasional project leadership in the interface of MARTA’s ITS program efforts relative to scheduling, trip planning, bus communications, and the Automatic Vehicle Locator (AVL) systems both locally and regionally. Supports initial and on-going Route Surveys of the AVL system to ensure the integrity of the route survey information. Has responsibility to geo-code all time points, stops, routes and patterns in the scheduling system. Completes all steps to ensure the geo information will flow to the AVL system via the interface between AVL system and Scheduling system. Supports initial and on-going production of in-vehicle announcements to comply with the ADA standard. Manages multiple priorities of various complexities and scope., * Supports initial and on-going Route Surveys of the AVL system to ensure the integrity of the route survey information for Bus on time performance.

  • Supports initial and on-going Route development in the Fixed-Route scheduling system.

  • Has responsibility to geo-code all time points, stops, routes and patterns in the scheduling system.

  • Completes all steps to ensure the geo information will flow to the AVL system via the interface between AVL system and Scheduling system

  • Monitors and reports systems for the compliance of enterprise-wide geo-spatial data policies and standards enabling the Authority to operate more efficiently

  • Manages a base map acquisition and maintenance environment for use across the Authority

  • Represents the authority externally concerning GIS issues

  • Performs all manual interface/integration activities currently performed by Information Technology Systems between MARTA’s scheduling, trip planning and AVL system

  • Performs and/or coordinates installation, training and other activities involved in the deployment of spatial applications that IT has either acquired or developed

Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Do you have experience in XML?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Geographic Information Systems, Cartography or related field. Five years’ experience in the design, development, customization, installation and training of CAD (Computer Aided Drafting), GIS (Geographic Information System) and database applications required. Must possess a strong knowledge of GPS and GIS computerized mapping skills to include the use of personal computers and their related software (analytical, database, spreadsheets and word processing). Knowledge of GIS with a focus on GEO (Global Earth Observation) database management, Trapeze, MARTA’s scheduling, trip planning and Bus Communication/AVL and Trapeze program desired. Previous project leadership experience is preferred. Experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis in lieu of Bachelor’s Degree., The selection process may include one or more components to demonstrate applicants’ knowledge, skills and abilities in job-related areas. These may include exercises such as practical demonstrations, written communications, oral interview and/or competency assessments., Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
