Job description
We are seeking a detail-oriented and dependable QA/QC Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for testing hot mix asphalt and ready-mix concrete to ensure compliance with federal, state, and customer specifications. You’ll work closely with plant personnel, supervisors, and external agencies to maintain high quality and safety standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesQuality Control & Testing (80%)
- Perform sampling and laboratory testing of hot mix asphalt, including volumetric measurements and asphalt content analysis
- Conduct concrete testing for consistency, air content, and compressive strength
- Sample and test aggregate materials, including gradation, specific gravity/absorption, and crush counts
- Accurately document and submit testing results to meet regulatory and customer requirements
Safety & Compliance (Integrated Daily Responsibility)
- Actively participate in company safety programs, including safety meetings, one-on-one discussions, and near-miss reporting
- Promote and support a strong safety culture through safe decision-making
- Follow all safety policies and procedures, including LOTOTO, motor vehicle, and drug & alcohol policies
- Assist with incident investigations and follow through on corrective actions
Teamwork & Communication (20%)
- Communicate test results effectively to plant operators, supervisors, customers, and government agencies
- Maintain a high level of professionalism with coworkers, contractors, vendors, and customers
- Collaborate with team members to support efficient plant operations and continuous improvement
Requirements
Do you have a valid Driver’s License license?, Do you have experience in Customer communication?, Do you have a Associate’s degree?, * Minimum 2+ years of experience in hot mix asphalt, aggregates, or concrete testing
- OR
- Associate degree in Manufacturing or a related field
- NYSDOT QC/QA Certification preferred (not required)Licensing
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
Core Competencies
- Knowledge of asphalt quality control processes (preferred)
- Experience with lab equipment such as gyratory compactors, sieves, TMD apparatus, and ignition furnaces (preferred)
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- High level of attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer applications
- Problem-solving ability and strong organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Reliable, responsible, and self-motivated
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
- Regular work in laboratory and outdoor plant environments
- Ability to kneel, climb, bend, stoop, and crawl
- Ability to climb ladders
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Travel may be required for 30% within the North Country
