Job description

The Quality Control/Quality Assurance (QC/QA) Technician provides oversight, detailed inspection, and thorough documentation of all precast concrete production for government, DOT, and private construction projects. The QC/QA Technician is responsible for checking, verifying, and recording all daily aspects of concrete production, and finished product to ensure product meets customer’s specifications and expectations. This position performs concrete testing using precision testing equipment. In addition, they are responsible for communicating findings of inspections to both leadership and production employees in a professional manner., * Inspect the production of precast concrete products to verify compliance with supporting documents (shop drawings, specifications, standards, etc.).

  • Monitor work for compliance with approved specifications.
  • Perform plastic concrete testing in accordance with ACI testing requirements on concrete samples including slump tests, compression tests, and moisture content tests.
  • Use special tools to measure sizes, thickness, and other traits of precast elements.
  • Utilize computer software (Microsoft Word & Excel, Adobe, etc.) to generate daily technical reports.
  • Communicate daily with management, plant personnel, and government inspectors.
  • Works closely with production team to oversee compliance specifications with the use of raw materials (cement, sand, stone, admixtures, and reinforcing steel), lockouts, block outs, and lifting devices to achieve the daily production objectives.
  • Determine acceptance or rejection of raw materials and finished product in a professional manner.
  • Prior to pouring concrete, conduct pre-pour inspections to ensure proper form setup, form oil application, heights and size of any hole formers, and reinforcement configurations meet specifications contained in production drawings.
  • Conduct post pour inspections of concrete structures for correct product dimensions, hole placement, hole size, and finish as directed by production plans.
  • Maintain records and certifications for all raw materials ensuring they conform with NPCA, State of Vermont DOT, State if New York DOT, and private customer requirements.
  • Obtain aggregate samples and perform aggregate testing in accordance with ASTM, AASHTO, VTAOT, and NYSDOT specifications.
  • Acceptance or reject raw materials (cement, aggregates, and reinforcement).
  • Conduct lab equipment certification based upon NPCA and state agency requirements.
  • Maintain all appropriate production logs (Pre-Pour, Pour, and Post Inspections). Label all items with proper identifiers. Perform all required concrete testing in conformance with the American Society for Testing and Materials American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) and American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO)
  • Mark finished precast product as required by company and customer requirements.
  • Meets or exceeds safety, quality, housekeeping, attention to detail, and production efficiency objectives while always maintaining a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Follows company best practices and policies including safety.
  • Maintain high ethical standards which include integrity, honesty, and excellent moral character.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Quality control?, Do you have a High school diploma or GED?, * High School Diploma or GED

  • 2-Year Degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or Similar Field is Preferred
  • ACI Grade 1 certification preferred or ability to achieve
  • NPCA certification preferred or ability to achieve

Experience:

  • 2 Plus Years in Quality Control
  • Ability to Read/Review Shop Drawings
  • Understand the Batching Process and Certified Mix Designs Preferred (Willing to Train the Right Individual)
