DBA / Database Migration Engineer ( DB2 to PostgreSQL, AWS) - Mainframe Modernization

  • Client has a data Engineer in the team. They want a Senior DBA with: Mainframe modernization experience , DB2 expertise , PostgreSQL expertise , any Cloud migration experience WITH THE GOAL TO do Performance tuning, Data validation, check Migration quality, Scalability and Production readiness, Seeking a hands-on DBA / Database engineer to support a large-scale mainframe modernization initiative involving migration of applications and data from DB2 environments to AWS PostgreSQL. This role requires strong expertise in legacy systems, data migration, and cloud-based database platforms, with the ability to translate mainframe logic into modern architectures, * Analyze and interpret legacy DB2 schemas, stored procedures, triggers, data dependencies and JCL workflows to understand data structures and business logic
  • Design and support database migration from DB2 to Amazon Aurora PostgreSQL /PostgreSQL in AWS
  • Support test data creation, extraction, and migration for development, test, UAT, and end-to-end testing cycles.
  • Collaborate with AWS and system integrator teams to validate functional equivalence between legacy and modernized databases.
  • Execute data reconciliation, integrity checks, and migration validation across environments.
  • Support initial data migration dry runs and advise on final production cutover planning and sequencing.
  • Coordinate database-related troubleshooting during integration, performance, and UAT testing.
  • Document database migration processes, validation results, triggers, and go-live support procedures.
  • Analyze and diagnose performance issues in AWS PostgreSQL / Aurora PostgreSQL environments, including slow query identification and execution plan review.
  • Perform database performance tuning including query optimization, index design and management, and configuration tuning for AWS PostgreSQL workloads.
  • Manage database backup and restore procedures in AWS environments, including RDS/Aurora snapshot management and point-in-time recovery validation.
  • Setup and perform database maintenance activities including vacuuming, table statistics updates, bloat management, and database health monitoring in PostgreSQL.
  • Advise and assist Customer with database development best practices, initial database setup, and configuration in AWS environments.
  • Work with Customer’s mainframe team to coordinate database support needs for legacy testing, ensuring alignment between DB2 source and PostgreSQL target environments.
  • Work with Customer during Go-Live planning to enable Customer to manage the logistics of data migration to production, including downtime windows, communication planning, cutover sequencing, and rollback procedures.

Requirements

  • Strong experience with DB2, and mainframe-based systems
  • Proven experience in database migration (DB2 * PostgreSQL or similar)
  • Hands-on experience with AWS (DMS, SCT, RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL) OR any other cloud migration
  • Solid understanding of data modeling, schema conversion, and ETL processes
  • Experience with batch processing, large data volumes, and transactional systems
