Job description

  • Design, implement, and optimize anime/toon-style gameplay effects using Unreal Engine 5 and Niagara.
  • Develop and manage custom shaders, complex materials, and post-processing effects within the UE5 rendering pipeline.
  • Implement and map 2D cosmetics and stylistic elements onto 3D character models.
  • Setup and bake environment lighting to enhance the stylized, vibrant aesthetic of the game.
  • Collaborate with animators and designers to perfectly time effects with martial arts moves and gameplay triggers.
  • Ensure all VFX, shaders, and post-processing volumes are highly optimized for real-time gameplay and performance.
  • Help establish and maintain a consistent visual clarity and style across all particle systems and atmospheric effects.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Unreal Engine?, * 5-10 hours per week availability.

  • Solid portfolio showcasing anime/toon-style VFX for games, as well as examples demonstrating environment lighting for stylized games.
  • Deep understanding of Unreal Engine 5, including Niagara, the material editor, and the rendering pipeline.
  • Proven ability to create new shaders, dynamic gameplay effects, and post-processing effects from scratch.
  • Knowledge of Unreal’s Gameplay Ability System (GAS) and experience hooking up and triggering VFX via Gameplay Cues.
  • Experience working with and applying 2D cosmetics on 3D models.
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a remote team environment.

Bonus (Not Required)

  • Experience with Blueprint scripting inside/outside of the VFX pipeline.
  • Familiarity with supplementary VFX software (e.g., EmberGen, Houdini) or creating hand-drawn 2D flipbooks/sprite sheets.
  • A passion for martial arts themes or Eastern-inspired settings., * Are you located and legally authorized to work in the United States?
