Job description

  • The Fastnet Network Administrator handles the implementation of network services and technologies for 4 County/Fastnet, responds to network change requests, identifies optimal networking for 4 County’s WAN network, and provides communications solutions for 4 County/Fastnet.
  • The Fastnet Network Administrator often works on-site at OLT locations, implementing various Ethernet solutions while working with a team of coworkers and contractors. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned Network Administrator with experience in routing and switching, and is available to travel throughout the 4 County service territory. Responsibilities

  • Interact with Fiber Techs to understand client technical requirements and deploy optimal networking and connectivity solutions. *

  • Prepare recommendations and support details of formal project proposals for network connectivity and configurations. *

  • Interact with internal and external teams to understand network requirements and prepare network changes for implementation. *

  • Interact with Fastnet customers doing Tier 2 and Tier 3 support.
  • Regularly interact with telecom providers, equipment suppliers, and third-party network vendors to engage their technical resources to perform tasks. *

  • Work closely with the Network Analyst and Fiber Techs to support product and service deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting. *

  • Work closely with Network Analysts and Fiber Techs to support VoIP installations and technical support for Residential and Commercial VoIP customers.
  • Position requires on-call support and scheduling, and attendance for maintenance windows. *

  • Communicate, manage, and implement technical solutions. *

  • Will be subject to a 24-hour call-out
  • Has a thorough knowledge of all applicable safety regulations and can administer first aid, including artificial respiration. *

Requirements

Do you have a valid Driver’s License license?, Do you have experience in Wireless networking?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, + Bachelor’s degree in computer science or five years of related experience.

  • Utility Telecommunications
  • Experience with fiber optic networks.
  • Experience with wireless communication.
  • Operational level knowledge and experience with Windows and Linux
  • Server Environments. *

  • Operational level knowledge and experience with Mikrotik Routers and Switches
  • Five + years of experience with Routing and Switching (Juniper preferred).
  • One to three years of experience in coordinating and implementing technology projects. * Job Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills (both written and oral) and the ability to be intuitive and resourceful. *

  • Strong understanding of the OSI Interconnect model and how it relates to the design and deployment of structured IP networks. *

  • Must have proven ability to plan and organize work to meet deadlines, all with high accuracy and attention to detail. *

  • Must have strong analytical and critical thinking skills and demonstrated problem-solving abilities. A wide degree of creativity and flexibility is expected. *

  • Ability to work autonomously or as a part of a distributed team. *

  • Must possess a valid non-restricted [State] driver’s license. *

  • Initiative and self-direction; can apply knowledge and make sound judgments to resolve issues effectively *

  • Working Conditions: Work is generally performed inside, but site visits may be required in all types of weather. Position requires limited physical exertion, and there are opportunities to relax from any physical exertion or to change jobs in work activities. The employee may lift and move 5-25 pounds every month. The person in this position must be available to work irregular hours and respond to emergencies.
