Network Technician - Lead

United Communication Services is seeking experienced traveling Network Technicians for nationwide commercial construction, remodel, service, and technology deployment projects.

This is an on-site field position supporting commercial customers across multiple cities and states. The primary focus of this role is Layer 1 physical network infrastructure, including structured cabling, device installation, troubleshooting, remediation, surveys, and closeout documentation.

Extensive travel is required. Flights, hotels, rental cars, and other approved travel arrangements are coordinated as needed, and per diem is provided., Network Technicians are responsible for completing commercial low-voltage and network infrastructure work safely, professionally, and according to customer-specific scopes of work, site standards, and documentation requirements.

Strong communication is critical. Technicians must be able to communicate clearly and in real time with customers, vendors, site contacts, and the internal office team by phone, text, email, photos, closeout documents, and web meetings when required.

This position requires technicians who are reliable, trainable, detail-oriented, and able to follow instructions precisely. Many of our customers have strict site procedures, deliverable requirements, and documentation standards that must be followed every time.

Primary Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Structured cabling installation, remediation, and troubleshooting
• Cat3, Cat5, Cat5e, Cat6, and related copper cabling work
• Fiber troubleshooting, termination, and basic verification
• MDF, IDF, demarc, MPOE, NID, rack, cabinet, and network closet work
• Cable pathway installation and cable management
• Patch panel, 66 block, 110 block, biscuit box, keystone jack, and faceplate work
• Device installation, mounting, and troubleshooting
• Network service calls and break/fix work
• Site surveys and field documentation
• Reading and following scopes of work, blueprints, floor plans, and customer instructions
• Providing required closeout photos, notes, test results, and deliverables
• Communicating job status, site issues, material needs, and completion updates in real time
• Sourcing approved materials when required
• Working professionally with vendors, general contractors, customer representatives, and site personnel

Light Construction Duties

Some projects may require light construction-related work, including but not limited to:

• Installing conduit, fittings, boxes, and mounting brackets
• Bending and installing small conduit runs
• Cutting in low-voltage boxes
• Installing backboards
• Light painting of conduit or backboards when required
• Wall penetrations and basic pathway creation
• Mounting equipment to walls, ceilings, racks, cabinets, or other approved surfaces, Technicians must have basic network and low-voltage tools, including but not limited to:
• Lineman’s pliers/Kleins
• Punchdown tool with 110 and 66 blades
• Crimper with RJ45 and RJ11/RJ12 ports
• 12-in-1 electrician’s screwdriver or equivalent hand tools
• Basic RJ45 network cable tester
• Cable toner with signal generator and wand
• Fish tape
• Glow rods/pull rods
• Cordless impact driver and drill
• Flashlight or headlamp
• Tape measure
• Basic hand tools needed to complete commercial low-voltage installations

Physical and Site Requirements

Technicians must be physically able to complete installation work in commercial environments. This may include:

• Working from ladders up to 12 feet
• Working from scissor lifts and articulating boom lifts
• Working on commercial roofs when required
• Working above ceilings, in telecom rooms, in construction areas, and in occupied commercial spaces
• Lifting, carrying, pulling, mounting, drilling, bending, and installing materials as needed
• Following all site safety requirements and customer procedures

Do you have experience in Video conferences (communication methods)?, * Minimum 3-5 years of commercial structured cabling or network cabling experience

• Prior experience working in commercial environments
• Ability to identify and work around MDFs, IDFs, demarcs, MPOEs, NIDs, UPS units, battery boxes, switches, routers, modems, firewalls, servers, hubs, 66 blocks, 110 blocks, fiber LIUs, and patch panels
• Experience terminating and troubleshooting copper cabling
• Experience neatly running, dressing, labeling, and managing cabling
• Understanding of proper cable pathway practices
• Ability to read and understand scopes of work, site documentation, and blueprints
• Ability to communicate professionally with customers, vendors, and internal office staff
• Ability to arrive on site on time and follow check-in/check-out procedures
• Ability to provide accurate job updates, photos, and closeout documentation
• Ability to distinguish colors
• Ability to read, write, and understand English, * OSHA 10 certification
• Scissor lift and articulating boom lift certification or documented experience
• Current General Liability insurance
• Current Workers’ Compensation insurance or exemption documentation, if applicable

• Fiber termination and troubleshooting
• Audio/visual systems
• TV, media player, speaker, and display mounting
• Paging and audio systems
• Access control systems
• CCTV systems, including analog and IP cameras
• Alarm systems
• Analog and VoIP phone systems
• Basic electrical knowledge
• Basic computer and network troubleshooting
• Familiarity with BICSI, NEC, TIA/EIA standards, and industry best practices

Travel Requirements

This is not a remote position. All work is performed on site at customer locations throughout the continental United States.

Extensive travel is required. Technicians must be comfortable traveling by vehicle and air, staying in hotels, working in different states, and adapting to different customer site requirements., The ideal candidate is reliable, professional, communicative, and capable of working independently in the field. We are looking for technicians who can follow detailed instructions, represent the company professionally, solve field issues when needed, and complete work correctly the first time.
