Job description
The Vice President of Software Engineering is a senior leadership position responsible for overseeing the end-to-end software engineering function. This role leads a team of engineering managers, software engineers, and related technical staff. The VP will drive technical strategy, ensure high-quality scalable software delivery, foster a culture of innovation and excellence, and align engineering efforts with overall business objectives. This is a hands-on leadership role in a lean organization, balancing strategic vision with tactical execution., * Leadership & Team Management: Provide inspirational leadership to the Development team. Mentor managers and individual contributors, support talent acquisition, performance management, career development, and retention initiatives.
- Technical Strategy: Collaborate with the CIO and executive team to define and execute the company’s software engineering roadmap, architecture standards, and technology vision. Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, reliable, and aligned with business goals.
- Delivery Oversight: Oversee the design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of software applications. Champion agile methodologies, DevOps practices, CI/CD pipelines, and quality assurance processes to deliver projects on time and within budget.
- Innovation & Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to adopt new technologies, improve engineering processes, and drive efficiency. Promote best practices in cloud computing, microservices, security, and performance optimization.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with product management, operations, sales, and other departments to translate business requirements into technical solutions. Participate in strategic planning and budgeting for the engineering function.
- Risk & Compliance: Ensure adherence to security standards, data privacy regulations, and industry-specific compliance requirements.
- Budget & Resource Management: Manage the engineering budget effectively, optimizing for cost-efficiency in a mid-sized company environment while investing in tools and talent.
Requirements
Do you have experience in Team motivation (leadership skill)?, * Experience: 12+ years of progressive software engineering experience, with at least 6-8 years in senior leadership roles (e.g., Director or VP level). Proven success leading teams of 15+ in a fast-paced environment.
- Technical Expertise: Strong background in modern software development languages, frameworks, and architectures (e.g., cloud-native, microservices, AI/ML integration if applicable). Hands-on experience with relevant tech stacks.
- Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to build, scale, and lead high-performing engineering teams. Excellent communication, decision-making, and people management skills.
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (Master’s or MBA preferred).
- Experience in a smaller company or scaling environment (under 200 employees) is highly desirable. Strategic thinker who can operate effectively with limited resources.
- Experience reporting to a CIO or CTO in a similar revenue-stage company; familiarity with SaaS or product-led growth models.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to collaborate effectively with team members and stakeholders.

- Experience with Python and Jupyter Notebooks
- Experience with deploying applications via DevOps pipelines
- Experience building Linux Systemd services
- Experience with Blazor
- Experience building Microservices using gRPC, queues, etc.
- Experience dockerizing applications and deploying containers
