Job description

This is a hands-on, hybrid role supporting the City of Atlanta’s 24-hour government access channel-where broadcast, AV and IT all converge. ATL26 airs on Comcast Channel 26 and delivers live and on-demand coverage of City Council meetings, mayoral events, and public information programming.

We’re looking for a highly-skilled, self-directed engineer who can quickly understand a complex system, take ownership and drive it forward- working across vendors, production staff and city IT teams.

If you’re the type of engineer who takes ownership, resolves problems quickly and leaves systems and workflows better than you found them- this role is for you.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead and support ATL26’s IP-based broadcast & AV systems (routing, automation, cameras, audio systems, media asset management systems, monitoring, control platforms and live transmission tools like LiveU).
  • Perform Tier 1 troubleshooting across AV/broadcast and networked systems, escalate complex issues and coordinate resolution with vendors, integrators and City IT.
  • Coordinate with Comcast, AT&T, and City IT to ensure reliable, high-quality broadcast delivery.
  • Assist with live and remote productions, including stepping into the control room and directing meetings when needed.
  • Support cybersecurity efforts (MFA, patching, access control, vulnerability coordination) in partnership with City IT and vendors.
  • Maintain and organize technical documentation, system configurations, and asset inventory records.
  • Repair equipment and light fabrication including building or modifying mounts, racks and support structures to meet operational needs.
  • Evaluate and refine workflows- testing, inspecting, and improving systems performance and team efficiency.
  • Assist with procurement and vendor management.
  • Train staff and ensure consistent, reliable use of broadcast and AV systems.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Windows?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, * Broadcast and AV systems: cameras (PTZ/studio), switchers, audio, routing, automation.

  • IP-based media infrastructure and networking fundamentals: VLANs, VPN, WAN, device connectivity and patching.
  • Live streaming/transmission tools: LiveU or similar.
  • Familiarity with systems such as Ross Video, CHAMP, CASTUS, SNS EVO media asset management.
  • Experience with production equipment (Sony FX6 cameras, Panasonic PTZ, lighting and audio systems).
  • Working knowledge of cybersecurity best practices in broadcast/AV environments.
  • Experience supporting Windows/Mac production environments and networked media systems.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with production staff, City departments, and vendors; clearly relay technical and operational direction, support team training, and maintain consistent engagement with the team., * 7-10 years of experience in broadcast engineering, AV systems, or IT in live production environments.
  • Experience with IP-based broadcast or converged AV/IT systems (Cisco, Palo Alto, Azure, Defender, MFA/2FA environments).
  • Background supporting mission-critical live operations (government, public affairs, events, or similar).
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred (or equivalent experience).
  • Certifications (Network+, Security+, CCNA, CTS, etc.) are a plus.
