Job description

The GIS Governance Coordinator will be responsible for overseeing the development and management of GIS inventories, standardizing GIS roles and skills analysis, piloting data lifecycle governance projects, and leading research initiatives within the organization. This role will require strong collaboration with various stakeholders and departments to ensure effective implementation of GIS initiatives., * Develop and execute a work plan to create an enterprise-wide inventory of GIS technologies, applications, processes, and datasets.

  • Establish ongoing processes and standards to maintain and update GIS inventories.
  • Coordinate with business units, IT, and GIS stakeholders to ensure comprehensive coverage and accuracy of GIS data.
  • Analyze inventory findings to identify gaps, overlaps, and optimization opportunities.
  • Lead analysis of existing GIS-related roles, competencies, and responsibilities across the organization.
  • Identify core role types and develop standardized GIS role definitions.
  • Assess training, upskilling, and professional development needs required to support workforce capability.
  • Collaborate with HR, training teams, and supervisors to align recommendations with workforce development plans.
  • Scope, design, and manage pilot projects to model and implement full lifecycle data governance for specific datasets.
  • Define governance processes including stakeholder engagement and data product requirements.
  • Evaluate existing workflows and identify improvements for data acquisition, maintenance, publication, and archive.
  • Lead research initiatives to support predictive flood analysis and identify historical flooding events.
  • Evaluate available datasets, monitoring systems, modeling tools, and historical records for flood analysis.
  • Develop recommendations for standardized data sources, data processing methods, and analysis approaches.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and emergency management partners for flood analysis.
