Job description
The Security Sales Engineer serves as the technical bridge between Sales, Engineering, and Operations. This role is responsible for designing, estimating, and engineering commercial electronic security systems while ensuring projects are sold accurately, documented properly, and executed successfully.
The primary focus of this position is the design and layout of enterprise security systems including Access Control, Video Surveillance (CCTV), Intrusion Detection, Intercom, Visitor Management, and supporting network infrastructure. The Security Sales Engineer develops complete system designs, construction drawings, takeoffs, bills of material, labor estimates, and technical documentation that enable successful project execution.
This position works closely with customers, consultants, general contractors, project managers, and field operations teams to ensure systems are technically sound, code compliant, operationally achievable, and aligned with customer requirements.
The objective is to ensure projects are scoped clearly, engineered accurately, sold profitably, handed off cleanly, and executed as intended while protecting project margins and minimizing rework.
Pre-Sales Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive project takeoffs, including device counts, labor assumptions, pathways, and system architecture
- Create, review, and input all project data into WeSuite / WeEstimate
- Support sales leadership in meeting and exceeding sales deadlines
- Attend sales meetings as a technical resource when required
- Identify margin improvement opportunities through competitive distributor pricing, multiple labor sourcing options, and efficient system design and installation methods
- Validate scope, assumptions, and exclusions prior to quote submission
- Ensure quotes are technically sound, buildable, and aligned with operational capabilities
Sales-to-Operations Handoff
- Own and lead all sales-to-operations handoff meetings
- Provide operations leadership with complete and accurate project information, including scope intent, system design assumptions, labor expectations, material selections, and known risks or constraints
- Ensure operations receives all documentation required for a successful project start
- Clarify any ambiguities before projects are released to execution
Post-Sales / Project Support Responsibilities
- Provide ongoing engineering support to operations, including change orders, scope clarifications, and design adjustments
- Serve as the technical bridge between sales and operations throughout the project lifecycle
- Assist operations leadership in understanding the intended end result of the sold system
- Support accurate and timely change order development when scope shifts occur
- Provide required technical documentation and engineering support for successful build submittals once projects are awarded
- Help protect project margin by ensuring changes are identified, documented, and priced appropriately
Collaboration & Accountability
- Work closely with sales leadership to align technical solutions with customer needs and business objectives
- Support operations leadership to ensure projects are executed according to the sold scope
- Maintain clear and timely communication across teams
- Leverage prior field and lead technician experience to anticipate installation challenges and reduce avoidable issues
Technical Documentation & Submittals
Prepare and maintain:
- Shop drawings
- Submittal packages
- Product data sheets
- Sequence of operations
- Device schedules
- Riser diagrams
- Network diagrams
- Engineering narratives
- As-built documentation
Ensure documentation complies with customer specifications, consultant requirements, manufacturer standards, and applicable codes.
Success Metrics
- Accuracy and completeness of takeoffs
- Clean and effective sales-to-operations handoffs
- Reduced scope confusion and rework during execution
- Margin preservation and improvement
- Responsiveness to both sales and operations teams
Requirements
Do you have a valid Driver’s License license?, Do you have experience in Training delivery?, * 3+ years of commercial electronic security experience
- Experience designing and estimating enterprise security systems
- Strong knowledge of access control, CCTV, intrusion, and integrated security platforms
- Experience creating construction drawings and engineering documentation
- Ability to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and construction drawings
- Experience with WeSuite, WeEstimate, Bluebeam, Visio, AutoCAD, or similar design tools
- Strong understanding of IP networking fundamentals
- Knowledge of low-voltage installation practices and industry standards
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Strong understanding of commercial construction processes
