Job description

Xcel Structural Cabling is seeking an experienced Senior Data Center Discovery Engineer to perform a comprehensive Connectivity Discovery & Port Mapping engagement within a live enterprise data center environment. The successful candidate will document network, storage, SAN, fiber, power, and infrastructure dependencies required to support a large-scale data center migration from Boulder, Colorado to Dallas, Texas., * Perform detailed port-by-port network discovery.

  • Document switch-to-switch connectivity.
  • Document server-to-switch relationships.
  • Trace and document fiber infrastructure.
  • Validate SAN and storage connectivity.
  • Document firewall and WAN/MPLS relationships.
  • Perform rack inventory validation.
  • Create detailed rack elevations.
  • Validate power dependencies and PDU assignments.
  • Document inter-rack dependencies.
  • Review and validate existing infrastructure documentation.
  • Support migration planning and future-state design activities.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Technical writing for network engineers?, This role requires hands-on experience working within active production environments where service interruption is not permitted., * 7+ years enterprise data center experience

  • Experience working in live production environments
  • Experience performing port mapping and connectivity discovery
  • Experience with SAN infrastructure
  • Experience with enterprise storage platforms
  • Experience with fiber tracing and structured cabling systems
  • Strong documentation and diagramming skills
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
