Job description

As a research scientist in Software Systems Engineering, you will be working on the future architecture and design of ABB’s software-based products, with a special focus on the digitalization of industrial systems. We are looking for a team member with a proven research track record and the eagerness to transfer and apply world class academic research into an industrial environment. You will work within the highly motivated, international team of scientists at ABB Research. You will be mainly accountable for:

  • Contribute to and/or lead research projects that turn state-of-the-art research results into effective software solutions for ABB.
  • Create prototypes of innovative concepts with real business impact
  • Evaluate new technologies and assess their impact on ABB products and roadmaps.
  • Disseminate your results in scientific publications, patent applications, and technical reports.
  • Build a network in the company and actively disseminate your knowledge and expertise.

Requirements

  • PhD in computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering or in a related field
  • Experience in software engineering and system design
  • Theoretical and practical knowledge in one or multiple of the following topics: software engineering, distributed systems, computer networking, embedded systems, machine learning, cyber security
  • Hands-on experience in programming languages (e.g., C/C++, Python, Rust)
  • Proven publication track record at top scientific conferences and journals
  • Excellent communication skills and team player attitude
  • Solid experience of getting ideas from concepts to prototypes
