Lead Backend Engineer

Hevy is looking for a Lead Backend Engineer to join our growing team. In this role, you’ll take on technical leadership, helping to architect, develop, and scale our backend. You’ll tackle our most complex engineering challenges, improve system performance, and collaborate closely with product managers to shape the future of Hevy.

We’re a small, fast-moving team supporting millions of users, so your work will have a massive impact on both our product and our users. On average Hevy’s backend is saving between 10 and 20 workouts per second. You’ll lead the evolution of a high-throughput backend handling millions of workouts every week, solving challenges around scalability, reliability, realtime synchronization, data modeling, and performance optimization.

What You’ll Do:

• Lead and contribute to the development of our backend
• Build scalable solutions, improving system performance and reliability
• Mentor and support other engineers, fostering a culture of growth and technical excellence
• Own projects end-to-end, from technical planning to execution
• Work cross-functionally with product managers, designers, and other engineers to deliver new features and refine existing ones

Do you have experience in Scalability?, * 5+ years of experience building Node.js backends

• Deep understanding of Node.js, backend infrastructure, and relational databases
• Tech Leadership experience
• Strong problem-solving skills, with a track record of solving technical challenges at scale
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
