Job description

The Junior Network Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, operating, and supporting enterprise-level network infrastructure in a secure and high-availability environment. This role supports LAN, MAN, and WAN systems, performs troubleshooting and performance analysis, and ensures compliance with security standards, including Zero Trust principles and DoD requirements. The position requires hands-on technical expertise with Cisco networking technologies and collaboration with internal teams and external vendors to maintain reliable network operations., * Design, build, implement, and update enterprise network systems.

  • Administer and support Zero Trust network architectures.
  • Install, configure, and support network communications, including LAN, MAN, and WAN systems.
  • Monitor and respond to network hardware, software, and performance issues.
  • Troubleshoot complex network problems and identify root causes affecting performance and availability.
  • Analyze network traffic and develop capacity planning and optimization solutions.
  • Perform routine testing, patching, upgrading, and analysis of networking infrastructure.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, records, and reports related to network operations and maintenance.
  • Interface with vendor support organizations to ensure appropriate escalation during outages or degraded performance.
  • Support large-scale network facilities and communications equipment across multiple platforms.
  • Utilize network software and hardware diagnostic tools to resolve complex issues.
  • Ensure networks are continuously maintained to meet security compliance standards and applicable policies.

Requirements

Do you have experience in Zero Trust security?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, * Bachelor’s degree (BS or BA) in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related IT discipline.

  • Allowable Substitution: An additional four (4) years of relevant experience may be substituted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of enterprise-level Network Engineering experience, with a strong focus on Cisco networking equipment.
  • At least two (2) years of experience with firewall technologies (preferably Cisco ASA) or load balancing solutions (A10 or F5).
  • Experience working in a Department of Defense (DoD) environment, including implementation of DISA Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs).
  • Ability to successfully pass a high-level background investigation.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of IP addressing, subnetting, and DHCP implementation.
  • Experience with 802.1X network access control configurations, including Cisco Identity Services Engine (ISE).
  • Hands-on expertise in monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintaining Cisco-based networks.
  • Proficiency in creating and maintaining network design diagrams and documentation using tools such as Microsoft Visio.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with complex system implementations and follow structured organizational processes.
  • Familiarity with firewall, load balancing, and network security technologies.
  • Understanding of Zero Trust security concepts and enterprise security compliance requirements.
  • IAT Level II baseline certification in accordance with DoD 8140.01 “Cyberspace Workforce Management.”
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred (but not required):

  • Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).
  • Experience with Forescout.
  • Experience with Palo Alto network security platforms., * Bachelor’s (Required), * Network engineering: 5 years (Required)

  • DoD: 1 year (Required)
