Computer Repair Technician

Utilization and efficiency of the correct tools and mastery of control providing consistent unblemished and damage free disassembly, part replacement, and reassembly of fragile electronic devices most of which are: game consoles, handhelds, controllers, phones/tablets, laptops, desktops, smart-devices, sealed audio and speaker units, printers, and the occasional retro/oddball device.

-Familiarization, knowledge, technique for quick and efficient use of various testers, spec meters, multi-meters, probes, heat guns, IR tables, micro equipment, de-soldering stations, standard testing tools and many other types of diagnostic equipment used in isolating and diagnosing issues in electronic components, circuits, and more.

-Micro soldering skills- common parts include HDMI ports, usb ports, dc jacks, capacitor and resistor removal and install, smd, bus repair, sub-board fixes, com ports, tracing, bridging, working with circuits and schematics…

-General hardware repair and troubleshooting- complex tracing and troubleshooting using advanced tools and techniques, component replacement and/or bridging or in place repair, digitizer and LCD replacement on tablet, phones, and handhelds. Laptops: dc jack replacement- solder and clip style, screen replacement, hinge repair, covers and chassis straightening, palm rest and KB repair, general internal advanced troubleshooting, motherboard swaps, case swaps. Repairs and fixes performed across diverse types of electronic devices, laser and deck repair for game consoles, system fan repair, PSU testing and replacement and cable mgmt, HDD/RAM/CHIPSET and other major diag and reporting, basic TV repair, audio equipment repair such as amps, speakers. Networking equipment repair, lock out and cloud recovery, firmware updates, hard resets, wireless AP work, printer repair. Additionally, we often receive in shop the occasional repair of random electronics such as drones, hover boards, bare modules, radar guns, 3D printers.

-Custom computer design and device building skills- assembly from scratch to finished product, expert level guidance and recommendations for builds, proficiency with parts compatibility, matching, and solutions. Capability and confidence to collaborate directly with customers to meet specified needs and produce sales and results. Applying advanced configurations in both BIOS and OS, with proven solid skills in optimizing, evaluating, and troubleshooting high end computers and systems and gear.

-Software Expertise- Computer: Windows/Mac. Mobile: Android OS/Apple iOS. Installs, updates, configurations, virus removal, driver installs, resolving errors, backup and recovery, cloning, imaging, reformatting, upgrades, data recovery, scans, cleanups, patches, stress testing, factory resets, removing pin/cloud/acct locks configuration and optimization.

-Customer interaction, strong customer service skills, and clerical skills ARE required: Ex) Front desk coverage, sales and support, check-in’s, invoicing, scanning, researching, quoting, reporting, answering calls and emails, and navigating rush jobs such as returns, and/or emergencies. Answering customers technical questions before, during, and after care service, filing, sorting, running and handling reports such as AP and AR needs, handling scrap, donations and no claim units, prepping, labeling, testing, noting, call backs, collections and follow ups, daily cleaning and preset daily task performed at open, lunch, and close. Ability to quickly and efficiently perform a myriad of basic business and administrative task as requested by management and rush jobs called in by the owner is instrumental to success as a valued asset and contract continuation.

Primary job focus: Computer repair, game console repair (all makes and models from Atari to PS5), mobile device repair, electronic repair, customer service, sales, support, and basic administrative duties.

NOTE: Skilled Soldering Experience IS a requirement for candidates applying for this job opening.

Estimated 35+hrs a week Mon-Fri. with near unlimited hour potential during the busy winter season.

Technicians’ availability must coincide with shops open hours (10am-7pm, Mon-Fri)

*Schedule can be as flexible as needed due to 1099 contractor status.

*Saturday work hours are often available if contractor wishes to work. Saturdays- are, however, not required.

Pay starts at $19.50/hr. *No technical certifications, professional training, or higher education needed for this contract position. However, prior customer service experience working face to face with the general public along with providing character and prior work reference is a requirement of the position. Due diligence to appease insurance and our risk of the sensitive nature of material and items brought in and out daily solidifies this requirement.
