Job description

We are seeking a GIS Technician to support the creation, maintenance, and updating of electric utility mapping and system models. This role focuses on using GIS software (primarily ArcMap and ArcFM) to ensure accurate and up-to-date representation of electric facilities and related infrastructure. The GIS Technician plays a key role in maintaining mapping data integrity and supporting utility operations through high-quality geospatial data management., * Create, update, and maintain overhead and underground electric facility maps and system models

  • Post as-built updates related to construction and field changes
  • Review and interpret field sketches, plats, construction notes, and technical documentation
  • Maintain accurate system records and geospatial data within GIS platforms
  • Update landbase information such as subdivisions, roads, and municipal boundaries
  • Support switching operations and system changes using GIS tools when directed
  • Identify and resolve mapping discrepancies through data review and field coordination
  • Produce maps, drawings, and reports for internal teams, including design and maintenance support
  • Ensure mapping accuracy, quality control, and compliance with established standards
  • Track mapping work throughout the project lifecycle
  • Support system improvements, process updates, and GIS-related initiatives
  • Assist with training, documentation, and knowledge sharing as needed
  • Serve as a point of contact for mapping and facility data inquiries across departments

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in GIS, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Engineering Technology, or related technical field (or equivalent coursework/experience)
  • At least 1 year of experience working with ArcMap or similar GIS mapping tools
  • Educational background or completed coursework in GIS
  • Basic understanding of mapping concepts, spatial data, and utility infrastructure data, * Experience with utility mapping, electric distribution systems, or construction drawings
  • Familiarity with ArcFM or similar GIS extensions
  • Experience interpreting engineering or field construction documents
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word)
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to manage tasks and work within project timelines

Additional Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to use personal vehicle for work-related needs if required
  • Ability to support emergency response situations, including storm restoration when needed
  • Willingness to work in both office and field environments when required, * High school or equivalent (Required)

  • Full-time, 8-hour shift (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM)
  • Hybrid schedule: 3 days in office, 2 days remote
