Job description

Reporting to Collections Content Metadata Manager and Assistant TMS Administrator . This position encompasses a range of tasks required for the Digital Curation department functions. Data Entry and Image Processing tasks support content that is used for the galleries and online. Rights and Reproductions coordination supports the use of digital images and metadata by outside publishers. Other duties as assigned.

  1. Rights and Reproductions: responsible for managing the use of images and content from the museum’s collection for print, film and online publications. This includes determining copyright status, securing permissions, licensing images for various uses, and ensuring compliance with all intellectual property laws and museum policies.

  2. Data entry: information will be entered about collection items from handwritten or digital sources into TMS or ArchiveSpace to create records for use online and in the galleries. Data is used in the organization, management, and preservation of digital information to make it discoverable and accessible for all users in the galleries and online.

  3. Image Processing: Digital images will be processed through several stages of image correction, enhancement and quality control, then moved to server locations for online access and long-term preservation.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES :

Rights Coordination

  • Fulfill requests for image reproductions.
  • Conduct research to determine copyright status and other intellectual property rights associated with works in the collection and enter into appropriate databases.
  • Identify and locate copyright holders, including artists, institutions, and estates, to obtain necessary permissions for Gilcrease image use.
  • Complete licensing agreements to ensure appropriate use of museum collection images.
  • Track invoices, payments and contracts.

Data Entry

  • Assist with the creation of detailed textual descriptions (metadata).
  • Follow established standards.
  • Perform quality review steps.
  • Follow established steps to ensure consistency.
  • Add tags and search terms to improve findability.

Image Processing

  • Perform quality control, image enhancement, and image correction after digitization using a variety of software.
  • Organize and inspect captured image files and transfer files to Digital Curation servers for preservation, publishing, and access. Match with databases.
  • Manage image items through the various stages of production, making sure items are moving through smoothly and nothing is missed.
  • Assist with some digital capture of collection items

Requirements

Do you have experience in Writing skills?, Do you have a Bachelor’s degree?, Bachelor’s Degree in relevant subject - Art, Photography, History, Art History, English or Museum Studies. Strong computer skills and ability to type quickly and accurately. Comfortable with software and computer applications, including spreadsheets and word processing systems. Demonstrated ability to learn new technology and software.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing in an open, complex, work environment. Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions.
  • Must be self-motivated, able to work independently or as part of a team, meet deadlines, and demonstrate problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and very good organizational skills. Excellent fine motor coordination.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality., Experience working in museum or cultural institution. Basic knowledge of copyright laws and experience with handling museum collections is a plus.
